Man charged in scam in West Whiteland

Police said a Coatesvill­e man was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

WEST WHITELAND » For many, it is the happiest time of the year but for others, it’s a scamming season.

West Whiteland police said Ken Page, 52, of Coatesvill­e, was charged with theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and receiving stolen property following an incident involving a disabled vehicle on Route 100 on Dec. 1.

The driver of the disabled vehicle was able to maneuver her car off of the roadway and into a parking lot at 430 Walkertown Road. She was reportedly with her vehicle and waiting for roadside assistance when a tow truck pulled up. The driver of the tow truck, who police identified as Page, allegedly told the woman that she was illegally parked and he had been contacted by the business. The woman told Page that her vehicle was broken down and she was waiting for roadside assistance. She told police she allowed him to speak to OnStar, the roadside assistance company. Page allegedly told the woman that she had to provide him with $175 for his time or he would tow the vehicle off of the lot, according to police. Page was charged by criminal summons.

The following are from West Whiteland police reports:

DUI

Police said Margaret White, 79, of Exton, was charged with DUI and traffic offenses on Nov. 29 after officers responded to the 200 block of Aberdeen Avenue for a reported two-vehicle crash. A patrol officer made contact with White who was the alleged driver of one of the involved vehicles. Police said White was arrested after reportedly failing field sobriety tests and released on a criminal summons.

Police said Michael Rebar, 35, of West Chester, was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license on Dec. 3. The charges were filed after a patrol officer responded to the intersecti­on of Pottstown Pike and West Boot Road for a report of a person asleep in a vehicle stopped in the intersecti­on. The officer made contact with Rebar who was the alleged driver of the vehicle. Rebar was arrested after allegedly failing field sobriety tests. He was released on a criminal summons.

Police said Alicia Becker, 32, of Exton, was charged with DUI and driving without a valid license on Dec. 3 after an officer observed Becker operating a vehicle in the area of Bartlett Avenue and Main Street. The officer was aware that Becker did not have a valid driver’s license. The officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Becker, who was arrested after reportedly failing field sobriety tests. She was released on a criminal summons.

Drugs

Police said Kyle Stamer, 20, of Malvern, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug

parapherna­lia, possession of alcohol by a minor and a speeding offense on Nov. 29 after a patrol officer observed a vehicle speeding on King Road. The patrol officer said they recovered the contraband during the traffic stop and Stamer was released on a criminal

Retail theft

Police said Sandra Rubio, 47, of West Chester, was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property on Dec. 2 after officers responded to the Boscov’s store for an alleged $486 theft. Rubio was released on a criminal summons.

Police said Andrew Reiter, 27, of Narvon, was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property on Dec. 5 after officers responded to the Wal-Mart for an alleged $194 theft. Reiter was released on a criminal summons.

Police said Karron Williams, 23, of Norristown, was charged with retail theft on Dec. 5 after officers responded to the WalMart store for an alleged $55 theft. Williams was issued a non-traffic citation and released.
