Anthony J. Malchione of West Grove

-

Anthony “Tony” J. Malchione, age 75, of West Grove, PA, passed away peacefully on December 8 at Seasons Hospice in Newark, DE. He was the husband and best friend of Joyce (Aline) for 53 years.

He was raised in Kennett Square, PA, the son of the late Mario and Splendora Malchione.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Michael Malchione and his wife Karen of Landenberg, PA, daughter Tina Torello and her husband Chris of Landenberg, PA, grandchildren Marissa Malchione of Arlington, VA, Matthew Torello, Nicholas Malchione and Courtney Torello, of Landenberg, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Malchione of Kennett Square, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony attended Kennett High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force where he served four years, stationed in Great Falls, Montana; Thule, Greenland; and Fayetteville, North Carolina. During his time in Great Falls, he met Joyce, the love of his life, “while cruising the drag”. They settled in Kennett Square, PA and then moved to West Grove, PA.

Before starting his own carpentry company, Malchione Construction, in 1977, he worked for his father and uncle in the mushroom industry, then as a carpenter for Nick Basilio & Sons, and also drove the cantina truck for Earl’s Sub Shop.

After his family, Tony loved his church, Assumption BVM in West Grove, where he shared his time, talent, and treasure to numerous construction and maintenance projects, in addition to social and volunteer events. At the annual Spaghetti Dinner, he was in charge of the takeout section, lovingly called “Tony’s Takeout”, where he filled customers’ containers with a smile and an extra scoop of spaghetti. He was also a greeter and sacristan at the 4:30 Saturday Mass, and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Pius X Council.

Tony very much enjoyed music and playing his saxophone. He was a member of the 2uesday Nite Band and could often be found hyping up the crowd at the Hilltop Crab House on Saturday nights.

Tony was an integral part of his family, and the community as a whole. He was a blessing to all who met him-always accompanied by his infectious smile and a positive attitude. He will be remembered not only for his warm personality and wonderful sense of humor, but also for his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 17 from 6-8 pm and Monday, December 18 from 9:30-10:30 am at Assumption BVM Church, West Grove, PA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.
