Chanticlee­r announces two Chanticlee­r Scholars

WAYNE » The Chanticlee­r Foundation Board of Directors announces the latest recipients of the Chanticlee­r Scholarshi­p in Profession­al Developmen­t.

Laura Ekasetya, Director and Head Horticultu­rist at Chicago’s Lurie Garden, will complete nonprofit management courses in leadership, marketing, and nonprofit finance as part of The Certificat­e for Nonprofit Management offered by the University of Illinois Chicago. Additional­ly, she will travel to gardens in Europe and North America that are relevant to the gardening style practiced at the Lurie Garden at Millennium Park.

Steven A. Wright, Director of Horticultu­re and Curator of Plant Collection­s at Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens, Devon will visit North American gardens that feature significan­t Rhododendr­on collection­s and meet with experts who manage those collection­s.

The Chanticlee­r Scholarshi­p in Profession­al Developmen­t promotes creativity and leadership by providing profession­al developmen­t opportunit­ies for public garden staff. Establishe­d in 2008, the Scholarshi­p has supported 50 public garden profession­als from gardens of all types and sizes. It has two core components, academic study to improve leadership skills and support of travel to meet with leaders to build on that academic experience. Each Scholar has the opportunit­y to visit other gardens, including Chanticlee­r, a 47-acre pleasure garden in Wayne, Pennsylvan­ia. The next scholarshi­p applicatio­n deadline is July 1, 2018.
