Gordon “Flash” Farquhar passed away Sunday, December 10th at the age of 101. He was born in the south side of Chicago on February 5th, 1916. He was educated in Catholic schools in Chicago and later attended Northweste­rn University where he obtained his B. A. in business.

Gordon was a veteran of World War II. After college, he accepted a job offer from the National Vulcanized Fiber Company in Kennett Square where he met his future wife, Marjorie Jane Fahey. Gordon started an electronic­s business in Wilmington, DE and in 1953 moved to the Fairfax shopping center where he owned and operated Gordon’s TV & Appliance for many years.

Gordon was one of the original members of the Brandywine Rotary and was one of the original founders of the Kennett Old Timers Baseball Associatio­n. After retirement, Gordon and Marjorie traveled the world over – the two especially enjoyed Ireland and Scotland. Gordon loved art and was also involved in environmen­tal issues.

Gordon is survived by his son, Gordon R. Farquhar, Jr. and his wife, Shirley Guididas Farquhar of Kennett Square, PA; his daughter, Jane Fahey Burrows of Mercersbur­g, PA; his granddaugh­ter, Andrea Farquhar Burrows of Mercersbur­g, PA; and a grandson, David Ruhl Burrows of Forestvill­e, CA.

The family is extremely grateful to Shirley Davis, Kay Carter and Sherry Bowman who cared for Gordon in his final years. Services will be held privately.
