June Loucks Evans
June Loucks Evans died on November 29, 2017 in York, PA. Her husband, Warren H. Evans, preceded her in death three months earlier.
June was born on June 16, 1934 in Washington, D.C. to Marguerite Livingston Loucks and Philip Geiselman Loucks. In 1941 her family moved to York County where she attended Wrightsville High School. After graduating from Goucher College with honors in chemistry she married Warren Hubbard Evans and relocated to the Washington, DC area where they raised their children.
She later returned to school, receiving her Ph.D. in Anthropology from The American University where she also worked as an adjunct professor. In 1990, after moving back to York County, June began teaching anthropology and archaeology at Millersville University, including summer field schools, and retired in 1999, becoming Professor Emerita.
June was actively involved in local issues through numerous organizations including the Hellam Township Environmental Advisory Council (which she founded and chaired), The Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education (founding board of directors) and the PA State Historic Preservation Board among many others.
She enjoyed her family her sons Robert (and wife Renee), Jonathan (and wife Amy), and Andrew (and wife Lori) and especially her seven grandchildren (Nicholas, William, Lucas, Ethan, Quinn, Amaya, and Alexander); gardening; nature; reading; music; history; and many good friends through the years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education. Friends and family are invited to attend her life celebration on December 27th from 1:00 to 7:00. Please email
