Tax bill is a win

- Michael A. DeHaven Westtown

As it appears now, Congress will pass tax reform this week.

With all legislation, I believe it should be approached with a basic, important question: Will this legislation help the economy to grow?

From a small business owner perspective, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is a win.

Lowering tax rates on businesses will allow them to expand, create more jobs and increase wages. These are all indicators of economic growth, which is what tax reform is about.

For middle class families, the bill would lower individual rates, as well as double the child tax credit and standard deduction.

The result will be that hardworking constituents from not only the 6th Congressional District but from across Pennsylvania will benefit.

The current tax code is complex and outdated, and a simpler tax code that provides relief for businesses and families will provide real benefits for all.

The business community in Chester County will grow and flourish under this new tax code. That growth will allow us to bring prosperity to our employees, our neighbors and our community.

Congressman Ryan Costello has been a powerful ally for Pennsylvania’s small businesses and middle class families, voting earlier this year to pass tax reform that would provide relief to both.

We need to continue to encourage Congressman Costello to support tax reform and vote for a final bill before the end of the year.
