Romaine M. Samworth of Malvern
Romaine M. Samworth, age 96 of Malvern, PA passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Paoli Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles D. Samworth.
Romaine was born on January 7, 1921 in Gardners, PA to the late William H. and Dora Bear Marsh. She was a graduate of The Overbrook School for the Blind. Romaine, who was blind since the age of eight, became a sculptor. She attended Form in Art classes at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for over twenty years and has exhibited at the National Exhibits of Blind Artists. She has exhibited in Japan, San Francisco, the Pennsylvania Governor’s Mansion, the Art Ability exhibit at Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital and various other places in Pennsylvania. She won third prize for sculpture in the 2012 Art Ability exhibition and second prize in 2011. Romaine and her husband were long time members of the First Baptist Church of Malvern, where they both taught Sunday school.
Survivors: Sisters of the late Ida R. Stoerzinger and Mildred Jean Marsh; Aunt of Diane E. Gonzalez (Jerry); Sister-In-Law of Dorothy and Bob Raker; also survived by grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Romaine’s life celebration service on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11am at the First Baptist Church of Malvern, 146 Channing Avenue, Malvern, PA 19355, where friends may visit from 10 - 11am. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Malvern or the Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, Pa 19130.
