Gifts under the tree for Ches-Mont coaches

- Peter DiGiovanni Columnist

Merry Christmas to all, and I thought it was time to see what our area hoped to find from Santa under their trees on Christmas morning.

What could the big man bring that would help their respective teams chances going into the New Year. So here goes. Coatesville’s Chuck Moore would like to see someone step up and become a leader of a very talented team that has struggled so far this season.

Bishop Shanahan’s Ken Doyle would like to see his team find some depth, so he can be less afraid of his starters getting in foul trouble.

Downingtown East’s John Goodman will be looking for a second scorer to pair with superlative point guard Malik Slay.

Downingtown West’s Stu Ross would like to see some better outside shooting from his Whippets.

West Chester East and first year coach Tom Durant are off to a good start to the season, but Durant should be looking for a complement to sophomore Tym Richardson.

For West Chester Henderson coach Chris Bruno, a perfect gift would be to find a scorer for the offensively challenged Warriors

Avon Grove’s Roy Blumenthal would like to find another inside presence to go along with senior Destin Murphy.

West Chester Rustin’s Keith Cochran will be looking for some focus from his team, and a renewed commitment from junior Taj Asparagus.

For Unionville coach Chris Cowles, he will be looking for star guard Bo Furey-Bastian to put it all together and lead the Indians.

Kennett coach Brain Grashof will be looking to limit the turnovers that have plagued his improved team so far this season.

Great Valley coach Paul Girone will be looking under the tree for a formula to get his Patriots to shoot like they are capable of from the outside.

Octorara’s Gene Lambert will be trying to find a way to make his team play tighter on the defensive end to go along with the prodigious scoring of Dom London.

For Oxford coach Jonathan Guarente, Santa should bring a big man to help under the boards for the Hornets, who are off to a surprisingly good start.

For Sun Valley’s Steve Maloney, he will be looking for Santa to bring a formula for the Vanguards to win some close games. Sun Valley has four losses by a combined 10 points.

Hopefully Santa will grant all these Ches-Mont League coaches their wishes, and to all Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.
