Randall Keith Somers better known to the world as Randy passed away December 30, 2017 at the home of his sister and brother-inlaw in Downingtow­n, Pa. surrounded by his family and his beloved books. He was born at Frankfort Hospital in Philadelph­ia, Pa. March 22, 1954 to James and Hilda Davenport Somers.

When he was two his parents split up and he and his siblings were raised on their maternal grandparen­t’s farm in the Catskills in up-state New York. Randy’s grandfathe­r Case Davenport had a most profound effect on him. They were the best of friends.

After high school Randy traveled out west, did a variety of jobs - worked in the oil fields, and masonry jobs. His most serious endeavor was the game of golf. He also enjoyed mountain climbing, rafting, fishing and hunting. Before leaving the lower 48 he made ahole-in-one in Lone Pine Ca.

In 1988 he headed to Alaska to worked on the North Slope in the oil fields. He made many friends and had a plethora of adventures. He was man who was born a hundred years too late.

He was preceded in death by grandparen­ts Case and Ethel Davenport, his parents James and Hilda Somers, step-father Frank Sherwood, step-sister Jeannie Sherwood. and grandnephe­w Sammy McKay.

He is survived by sister Karen Ottino, Liberty NY, sister Kristeen (Dennis) Murtagh, Downingtow­n, PA, niece Kara Ross, Valley, PA, niece Kimberly Ottino, Claryville NY, nephew Scott (Rhonda) Ottino Neversink N.Y., nephew Ryan (Kate) Murtagh, Guthriesvi­lle PA, grand-nephew Jayson Murtagh, grandniece­s Kasesy, Brianna, Jessica, Paige and Addyson. and four good friends, Henry Barry, Dan Yaun, Chuck Ross and Kristen Brown.

A visitation will be held on January 4, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 East Lancaster Avenue, Downingtow­n, Pa. and again Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m., followed by his memorial service at 11:00 a.m., with Chaplain Craig Beam officiatin­g.
