Family self-sufficiency graduate luncheon set for Friday
WEST CHESTER » The Housing Authority of the County of Chester will host a luncheon to celebrate the Family Self-Sufficiency graduates at milestone in West Chester on Friday. The luncheon will take place from noon until 1:30 p.m.
The Family Self-Sufficiency program is a fiveyear program designed to help families currently living in subsidized housing work towards self-sufficiency. This program helps families establish goals, provides them with case management, and offers them support and additional resources when needed.
In addition to goal building, this program offers the opportunity for families to receive an escrow balance once they achieve their set goals and increase their income. There are six graduates being recognized, with all having completed their goals within the last five years. The total sum of their collective escrow accounts equals $12,456; each graduate will receive their portion of this sum at the luncheon. Past graduates have used their escrow payments for such things as help with college tuition and down payment assistance in the purchase of their first home.
In Chester County, the Family Self-Sufficiency program has been extremely successful and has approximately 75 participants in the program. In addition to the success we have seen within the county, the 25th anniversary of the Family Self-Sufficiency program is celebrated this year. One of the graduates who will be receiving a check at the luncheon stated, “This program has helped me set and accomplish goals that I didn’t think I could accomplish and it has helped improve me and my families lives.”
The graduate luncheon is an opportunity to acknowledge each graduate and applaud them for their success, hard work, and dedication for the last five years of being a participant in the program. The Housing Authority of the County of Chester is honored to recognize each of these individuals and celebrate their achievements with them.
