Mother finds son, 24, dead of heroin overdose in his room

A 24-year-old man was found dead by his mother in their East Marlboroug­h home at 266 Cherry Lane on Dec. 15 at 10:58 p.m., police said. The young man was unconsciou­s when his mother found him and died of a heroin overdose, police said.

DRUG ARREST » On Friday, Dec. 29, at 12:40 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a green Buick sedan at Oak Street and Woodland Avenue. While speaking with the driver, an officer could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The officer then asked the driver, Demarius Johnson, 27, of First Avenue in Coatesvill­e, to step out of the car. Johnson reached his right hand toward the center console area and out of the officer’s sight. The officer grabbed Johnson’s arm to gain control of him, and in doing so, observed a white knotted plastic baggie containing crack cocaine. A small plastic package of marijuana was also removed from Johnson’s pocket. Johnson was taken into custody, transporte­d, processed, and housed until morning arraignmen­t.

BENCH WARRANT » On Jan. 4, Coatesvill­e police responded to a report of disturbanc­e. Upon arrival Officers came in contact with a subject that was known to have an active bench warrant. Stewart was taken into custody, and transporte­d the police station to be held for Constables.

INDECENT EXPOSURE » Alonso Rodriguez, 20, of Pennsylvan­ia engaged in an obscene act in the Walmart parking lot in the 500 block of Schoolhous­e Road in East Marlboroug­h in early December, police said.

FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE » Hilda Lee Smith, 47, of Pennsylvan­ia was found to be operating a disabled trailer on East Baltimore Pike in East Marlboroug­h on Nov. 11 and she was found to have a Florida warrant, police said.

DEER HIT » A driver hit a deer on Route 1 in New Garden on Dec. 26 at 1 a.m. There was damage to the car, but it was drivable, police said.

HARASSMENT » A 22-yearold male from West Chester pushed a female to the floor twice on Olde Field Drive in Eat Nottingham on Dec. 31 at 11:23 p.m., police said.

DUI CRASH » Richard Zimmerman, 68, of West Grove was charged with DUI after he hit mailboxes and a cable box on Bently Road in London Grove on Dec. 28 at 8:33 p.m. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Jennersvil­le Hospital, police said.

HARASSMENT » A 56-yearold male from Avondale yelled at a victim and was found to have a firearm in the 400 block of Oxford Road in East Nottingham on Dec. 27 at 5:29 p.m., police said.

RETAIL THEFT » A bald man with facial hair removed items worth $596 from the Walmart in East Marlboroug­h on Dec. 22 and left in a black ford F150 with wood panels and a Delaware license plate C68604, police said.

GUIDE RAIL HIT » Gustavo Lopez-Catalan, 31, of Landenberg hit a metal guide rail and a concrete abutment on a bridge on Penn Green Road in New Garden on 10:19 a.m. on Dec. 23. He was found to be DUi and place under arrest, police said.

BURGLARY » Someone forced entry into a basement in the 10 block of Laetitia Lane in London Britain between Dec. 22 and 29 and took $200 from a safe. The suspect then went up to the bedroom and took about $80 from a closet, police said.

DUI » Kenneth Roberts, 77, of Kennett /Square was arrested for DUI on Newark Road at Church Road in West Marlboroug­h on Dec. 19 at 6:49 p.m., police said.

THEFT » Someone stole a sterling silver set of silverware from the 500 block of North Walnut Road in East Marlboroug­h sometime in the past 4.5 years, police said.

RETAIL THEFT » On Nov. 18 at about 8:48 a.m. two females removed items worth $187.77 from Walmart in East Marlboroug­h and fled in a dark colored van, police said.

DUI » Jaasiel Jurado-Lopez, 22 of Toughkenam­on was arrested for DUI on Route 1 in London Grove on Nov. 30 at 9:23 p.m., police said.

HIT MAILBOXES » Someone hit four mailboxes, leaving tracks and traces of the red vehicle, in the 200 block of West Avondale Road in London Grove on Dec. 27 at 7:37 p.m., police said.

REAR END COLLISION » A rear-end collision occurred on Route 41 in London Grove on Dec. 27 at 6:53 p.m. The driver of the striking vehicle hit the other one from behind that was

stopped a traffic light, police said.

DRUG POSSESSION AND FALSE IDENTIFICA­TION » Jose DeJesus Castaneda-Huerta, 22, of West Grove was stopped for a traffic violation on Gap-Newport Pike in London Grove on Dec. 22 and was found to have heroin parapherna­lia and marijuana. He also gave a false name to officers, who later found he had an outstandin­g warrant for his arrest. He was taken to Chester County Prison after charges were filed, police said.

PACKAGE THEFT » On Dec. 23 12:08 p.m., police received the report that sometime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 19 a delivered package containing Louis Vuitton boots valued at $1,395 was stolen from a property located in the 700 block Meredith Street.

PUBLIC DRUNKENNES­S » On Dec. 23 at 10:06 p.m., police cited Jesus Castano-Castaneda, 40, Kennett Square for public drunkennes­s in the 500 block Center Street. Castano-Castaneda was released at his residence.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT » On Dec. 23 at 10:54 p.m., police cited Mary Nichols, 19, Kennett Square, and Andrew Tolbert, 20, Glassboro, N.J., for disorderly conduct after Nichols and Tolbert were found semi-naked in a vehicle parked in the parking garage located in the 100 block East Linden Street. Nichols and Tolbert were released at the scene.

HARASSMENT » On Thurs. Dec. 28 at 1:12 a.m., police arrested Richard Grubb, 35, Kennett Square for simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct for an incident that occurred in the 300 block Walnut Court Way. Grubb was arraigned by the on-call District Court and bail was set at $15,000. Grubb was able to post bail and was released at his residence.

LEAVES LIT » On Dec. 29 at 11:47 p.m., police received the report that sometime between Dec. 27 and Dec. 29 someone attempted to light leaves on fire and scorched the bricks on a building located in the 400 block Center Street.

HIT-AND-RUN » Police are investigat­ing a hit and run accident that occurred on Dec. 29 at 11:07 a.m. in the 100 block South Union Street. The driver of the vehicle that was struck stated that when the light turned green, he was struck from behind. The striking vehicle went around and fled south on South Union Street. Police found the bumper molding with a Chevrolet emblem from the striking vehicle.

TERRORISTI­C THREATS » Ronnie Lee King, 48, of Parkesburg was arrested after he fired two gunshots into the rear of his residence at 2858 Lower Valley Road, West Sadsbury, on Jan. 2 at 7:36 a.m., police said. A 36-year-old male was inside the house.

BURGLARY » Police said that on Dec. 20 a black .22 caliber Iver Johnson pistol and 20 collectibl­e coins were stolen from a residence at 9 Woodland Avenue in Modena.

HARRASMENT » On Dec. 18 at 3:20 p.m., police were dispatched to 520 Beaver Dam Road in Honey Brook for the report of someone receiving harassing letters. The letters claimed the victim’s kennel business causes pain and suffering to puppies and dogs and that if the victim does not change business practices, harm will occur. Anyone with informatio­n is urged to call police at 610-486-6280.

DOMESTIC DISTURBANC­E » Police responded to the report of a domestic disturbanc­e on Dec. 12 just after midnight at 463 Main Street, apartment three. A 56-year-old man fled prior to police arrival. The victim was a 33-year-old female from Atglen.

DRUG CHARGES » Charles Sheridan, 24, of Downingtow­n was arrested after a traffic stop on the Route 30 bypass near Pottstown Pike in West Whiteland on Dec. 3 at 9:03 p.m. Police said they found drug parapherna­lia in the car.

DRUG CHARGES » A 44-yearold female from Coatesvill­e was arrested after a traffic stop Dec. 19 at 1:53 a.m. on Route 30 eastbound in Caln. She was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

BATTERIES STOLEN » Police said two batteries were stolen from school buses parked on private property at 1801 Pottstown Pike in South Coventry sometime between Dec. 22 and Dec. 27. The buses are owned by G&L Student Transporta­tion.

DRUG CHARGES » Nicholas M. Gallo, age 20, of Wilmington, Del. was charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act and a traffic offense, in connection with a two-vehicle accident. The incident occurred on Dec. 17 at 6:09 p.m., at the intersecti­on of Newark Road and Broad Run Road, in New Garden.

The investigat­ion revealed that Gallo had failed to yield at a posted stop sign and pulled out in front of an oncoming vehicle. While investigat­ing the crash, police detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the Mazda that Gallo was operating.

DRUG CHARGES » Alex Larrea, age 24, of Wilmington, Del. was arrested and charged with DUI (drugs), as well as with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act and two traffic offenses, following a traffic stop for moving violations. The incident occurred on Dec. 28 at 11:49 p.m., in the 200 block of Laurel Heights Road, in New Garden. Upon making contact with Larrea, police were met the strong odor of marijuana from smoke that was billowing out of the vehicle and Larrea admitted to having smoked marijuana a short time earlier.
