Couponing workshop aims to fight hunger

WEST CHESTER » State Senator Andy Dinniman announced that a second free workshop on couponing to fight hunger is set for Thursday, January 25th at 7:30 p.m. at the Phoenixville Middle School Cafeteria.

“Many families clip coupons to save money, but it’s also a great way to fight hunger and give back to our neighbors in need,” Dinniman said. “This workshop will teach you unique and innovative methods to maximize your couponing skills and take advantage of special deals like buyone-get-one. All we ask in return is that you make an effort to donate some of your yield to our local food cupboards.”

Dinniman said that the first couponing workshop held in October so was popular and well-attended that organizers decided to add a second date.

The 90-minute seminar, sponsored by the Philadelphia Inquirer and organized by the Chester County Food Bank, is free and open to the public. However, registration is required as seating is limited. Participants can register at www.philly.com/ xtreme coupon.

The workshop, hosted by Jen Freeman and Jen Morris as featured on the TLC television show Extreme Couponing, will teach local residents how to utilize coupons for maximum value at supermarkets while passing their savings onto those in need through donations to local food banks and food cupboards.

At the workshop, Freeman and Morris, known as “The Couponing Angels,” will share their secrets to massive savings and giving back to the community.

Dinniman, who helped found the Chester County Gleaning Program (now the Chester County Food Bank) two decades ago, will discuss the importance of supporting local food banks and other ways residents can help fight food insecurity in our region.

In addition to teaching you all the tips and secrets on how to easily and consistently save $100s every month on your grocery bill, the workshop will feature free prizes and giveaways.

“Despite being one of the wealthiest regions in the state and the nation, hunger continues to impact individuals, families, children, and senior citizens in Chester County,” Dinniman said. “This is just another way you can get involved in assisting those in need and learn to save your family a few bucks at the same time.”
