Women’s marches planned today in Kennett, West Chester
WEST CHESTER » Across the country and around the world, women and their allies are taking part in a celebration of all the contributions women make to society and their right to equality. Marches are planned in West Chester and in Kennett.
There will be a Women’s March at the Old West Chester courthouse, 21 W. Market Street at noon on Jan. 20. Speakers include: Lisa Long, President of the Phoenixville School District; Dianne Herrin, Mayor of West Chester Borough and Mikhel J. Harrison, National Organizer at Organizing For Action. There will be a musical performance.
Sponsoring the march is Organizing for Action (OFA) a non-partisan, issue advocacy organization committed to growing the grassroots movement by training, organizing and empowering a new generation of progressive leaders who seek to make real and lasting change in their communities.
On Saturday, Jan. 20, local women will demonstrate their support for the women’s marches in Washington and Philadelphia with a local presence. The rally will take place on Route 1 near the Kendal at Longwood complex in Kennett Township from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Some of us no longer have the stamina for the bigger marches, but we want to show we care,” said spokesperson, Ingeborg Snipes of Kennett Township. “Local residents are welcome to join us. Bring your own sign.”
The second annual event in Philadelphia comes a year after the historic women’s marches that followed President Trump’s inauguration and will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Philadelphia.
The theme of this year’s event is “We Resist. We Persist. We Rise.”
