Richard F. “Glen” Skelton, Sr., age 75, of Coatesville, PA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Neighborhood Hospice. He spent his final hours surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on January 12, 1943 in Wilmington, DE he was the son of the late Selma A. (Burton) Fiore and step son of the late Oliver P. Fiore who had raised him as his own since childhood. He was also the son of the late Herbert Skelton. He was the loving husband of Lorraine K. (Hostetler) Skelton, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.

Glen spent his childhood in Kennett Square before moving to Coatesville upon entering high school. Coatesville became his home and the Red Raiders were his team. He attended football and basketball games regularly and wore his “red and black” with pride.

Glen began working in the family mushroom business as a teenager and remained there until 1976. He then worked for Sealed Air Corporation in Modena, PA until his retirement in 2005.

Family and sports were his life and he combined the two and was a fixture at his children and grandchildren’s events. Whether it was football, baseball, softball, wrestling, track or gymnastics; he was there to support not only his family but their teammates as well. He became “Poppop” to everyone on the team and they loved having him there.

Glen never met a stranger and would engage in conversation with everyone. With a friendly smile and quick wit he would discuss any topic. He loved talking history; but also loved talking sports; especially his beloved New York Yankees and Oakland Raiders. He was known in his neighborhood as the “Mayor of Ercildoun.”

While Glen was always a spiritual man; he sometimes questioned his faith; however in the past year with the love and support of his wife and the Gateway Church community; he came to know and love the Lord and on Sunday, January 14th, he was baptized. A glorious event with family and friends surrounding him.

Glen was loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting him and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife Lorraine, he is survived by daughters Donna and her husband Ed and Glenda and her husband David; all of Coatesville, PA and his sons; Eric and his wife Lisa of Lancaster, PA and Michael of Thorndale, PA. (He was predeceased by his precious first born child, Richard F. Skelton, Jr.) Also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Richard, Leslianne, Elizabeth (Tim), Dana (Sal), Shannon, Meredith (Kenny), Hayley, Todd, Tyler, Adam, Alexandria, Rachel and Anthony. Seven Great grandchildren John, Gavin, Grace, Kamryn, Jameson, Sal and Gia and two more great grandchildren due in the coming year. One brother Kenneth Skelton and his wife Joanne of Colora, MD. He was predeceased by brother Herbert and sisters Diane and Gail.

The family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to all who helped give Dad many additional good years; his “specialist” team of Doctors, the nurses and staff at Brandywine Hospital, Neighborhood Hospice and especially the people at Davita Dialysis; you became his extended family and made his hours spent there enjoyable in an otherwise difficult situation. He counted you all as friends.

You are invited to visit with Glen’s family on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm and Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 10am to 11am at the Maclean Chamberlain Funeral Home, 339 E. Kings Hwy., Rte. 340, Coatesville PA. A memorial service and life celebration will be held at 11am on January 23rd also at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
