Carozza, Castura lead Vikings

Ann Carozza won the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle, Carley Castura won the 500 free and 200 free, and the Vikings won the 400 relay at the end to finish off West Chester East’s tight 98-88 win over Great Valley on Wednesday.

Great Valley winners included Peyton Turner (100 breaststro­ke), Alyssa Utecht (100 backstroke and 100 free), Morgan Carkner (diving), Becca Choi (200 IM).

VILLA MARIA 126, SUN VALLEY 60 » Katherine Fronczak won the 100 backstroke and 200 IM, Kaitlyn Agger won the 100 breaststro­ke, Madeline Ladd won the 500 freestyle and the Hurricanes swept the relays in the nonleague win.

Anna Curran won the 100 freestyle and Kyra Kowalewski won the 200 free for Villa Maria in the win.

Boys Swimming

WEST CHESTER EAST 106, GREAT VALLEY 72 » Steven Grunza won the 500 free, AJ Avagliano won the 100 free, JP Perucki won the 100 fly and 200 IM, Emil Vasko won diving and Phil Leander won the 50 free in the win for the Vikings, who swept all the relays.

Great Valley’s Tommy Boerger won the 200 free and 100 back.

Girls Basketball

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 38, POTTSGROVE 31 » Julia Marrone led the way with 12 points as the Whippets beat Pottsgrove in a nonleague battle. Jess Willis scored nine points in the win for West.

Destyni Wood led the way with 17 points and 15 reboudns, Cheyenne Rivas and Lacy MacLachlin each scored 11 points, while Kiana Brown scored eight points and added five assists in the Golden Cougars’ win.

The Collegium Cougars jumped out to a 23-10 start on their way to a 60-31 victory over the Panthers. Sophmore guard Cheyenne Rivas set the pace for the Cougars as she worked her way through the Panthers tough zone defense. Rivas ended the day with 11 points which included a deep three ball. Senior shooting guard Lacy MacLachlin matched that 11 points adding 3 long balls of her own and a crafty euro layup on a strong attack to the rim. Junior Kiana Brown has been strong working the ball around. She dished out 5 assists to go with her 8 points on the night. Senior forward Destyni Wood worked her way to another double double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. All except one Cougar scored a basket in today’s league matchup.

Brianna Logan added 10 points for Lincoln. Pendleton becomes the eighth player in program history to reach 1,000 points.

CHEYNEY 69, MANSFIELD 63» Marlon Herring tied the game with two freethrows with 1:43 to play and her layup at the 1:05 mark put the Wolves ahead to stay as Cheyney scored the final eight points of the games to secure its second straight victory in PSAC East action. TaKayla Ellis led Cheyney (5-14, 3-10) with 21 points, connecting on 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and collected a gamehigh four steals, Yasmine Dorrielan scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, while Herring added 14 points and eight boards.
