Local man elected president of State Troopers Association
David Kennedy attended WCU before joining the state police in 1995
HARRISBURG » The Pennsylvania State Troopers Association announced it has elected David Kennedy of Chester County as its president. Kennedy will serve a three-year term for the PSTA, which represents 4,440 state police troopers. Kennedy is the PSTA’s 14th president since the organization was formed in 1962.
Enlisting with the State Police in 1995, Kennedy has served in several patrol units, including Troop L Jonestown, Troop J Embreeville and Troop K Philadelphia. He also has served as a criminal investigator at Embreeville and Lancaster headquarters. He later was named supervisor of the Lancaster Criminal Investigation Unit. Promoted to sergeant, he then served as firearms unit supervisor at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy.
Kennedy has served on the PSTA board of directors since 2013. Locally, he served as a trustee, guard, secretary and vice president of Fraternal Order of Police Robert D. Lapp Jr. Memorial Lodge No. 66, before becoming its president in 2014. Lodge 66 covers Lancaster, Chester and York counties.
“Only 4,400 troopers serve as primary law enforcement for 85 percent of the commonwealth,” Kennedy said. “It’s an incredible challenge, but troopers show their bravery each and ever day. I’m honored and humbled to serve these brave men and women.”
A resident of Chester County, Kennedy is originally from South Amboy, New Jersey, and a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. He attended West Chester University prior to becoming a trooper.
