Police investigating indecent assault
State Police say they have received a report of an indecent assault involving a student and a teacher at Owen J. Roberts Middle School.
According to a police report from State Police at Embreeville, troopers were made aware of an indecent assault that occurred at Owen J. Roberts Middle School involving a student and a teacher on Jan. 23.
The report did not identify those involved but indicated that the assault involved a 29-year-old man from Norristown and a 13-year-old female.
Police are asking that anyone with information contact State Police at 610486-6280.
A statement by Superintendent Susan T. Lloyd regarding the incident was posted on the district website Wednesday.
Lloyd said the district originally reported the incident to state police and the Chester County Department of Children, Youth and Families as required by state law.
“Additionally, the school district took steps to immediately remove this employee from the workplace when these allegations were brought to our attention,” Lloyd said in the statement. “The employee continues to remain out of school while law enforcement officials continue their interviews of individuals and fact gathering as part of their investigation.”
Lloyd emphasized that the school district “has fully cooperated with the Pennsylvania State Police’s investigation of this matter, and will continue to do so throughout that entire process.”
Lloyd said the district will not offer further comment while the investigation remains active.
However, she reminded district parents to encourage their children to let a teacher, school counselor, or administrator know if a situation exists that could ever place a student and others in danger.
“Only by working as a school community in partnership with parents can we create and maintainthe level of safety that we want for our children and that they certainly deserve,” she said.
South Coventry, where the middle school and high school are located, does not have its own police department. Incidents reported in the township are handled by state police.
