Insurrection, Reconstruction, Resurrection

-

Donald Trump’s election as U.S. president causes me to think of these three words. Combined those three words mean death, destruction, money and displacement.

It also means programs like education, Social Security, health care and benefits, and civil rights are in deep trouble. We will not be able to look for help from the federal government, the state government, or the Supreme Court.

We should remember that someone once said, “When the Nazis came for the Communists, I remained silent; when they locked up the socialist democrats, I remained silent. When they came after the trade unionists, I did not speak out. I was not a trade unionist. When they came after the Jews, I remained silent. I was not a Jew. When they came after me, there was no one left to speak out.”

Donald Trump did not pay his taxes for 18 years by his own admission. Which means he was making money of the American taxpayer’s money (corporate welfare).

In my opinion, Trump is a person who does not have the proper character, temperament, or moral fiber to be U.S. president; especially in light of his misogynous statements about women.

As I see it, Donald Trump has sold the American people a used car with a faulty motor and transmission and promised that it would run fine.

Many people believed him and swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.

I urge everyone to keep fighting for your issues, continue to protest. Do not give up or give in. Donald Trump will prove that he is unfit to be president.

He is not my president and never will be. Elwood Dixon Coatesville

Sad state of affairs

I am sure you will be inundated with emails from parents and taxpayers alike after the Daily News Article today. I have to say I had to read it three times to have it finally sink in that it was true. I even checked the date to see if somehow today became April Fool’s Day. However, now I’m left with that sinking sad feeling that no matter how hard good, rulefollowing people work every day to make the world a better place, society really is as bad as it gets.

I’m highly concerned the message this sends to our children. What it clearly says is do what you want, there will be no consequences. These kids were off on vacation for 10 days. Their social media shows them going out to lunch and getting their hair done at the spa. These kids faced Zero parental discipline. Then the only place that held them accountable is going to expunge their records?!

These “first offenders” are going to have NO repercussions for a very serious CRIMINAL offense. We as a society have already created an entire generation of adults who don’t feel they have to work, get married, or contribute to the world. We are teaching our kids that if you are rich and connected you can get away with everything and anything you want. Rules don’t apply to them. It’s a sad commentary on our local community and society as a whole.

Our family will still fight the good fight and keep trying to teach our kids right from wrong. Personal accountability will continue to be an important life lesson in our house. Sadly, it seems we are in the minority. Amy Kidd-Suplick West Chester

Caring firefighters

Last Saturday, my wife and I were babysitting our grandkids. I suggested a visit to our local firehouse. (West Bradford Fire Co.) By the way our grandkids ages are 8 and 3. We were lucky enough to be greeted by two volunteers that were just getting ready to head home after a meeting.

First was Fire Chief Jack Law, second was firefighter Tom Barton. They were kind enough to take time out of their busy day to give us a full tour of the fire station . Including the fire trucks and a lot of the other equipment also. Not only was it educational , the kids loved the special attention. When we were leaving they gave all 3 kids a goodie bag.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the volunteers in our area that give their all for their community. Imagine being woken up at 2 in the morning when it’s 5 degrees outside, to go into a burning house. For someone you don’t even know... for free. I can’t tell you how fortunate we are to have such brave volunteers in our community. Once again thanks to Chief Jack and Tom. Bill Jones West Bradford
