- Staff Report

CONCORD TOWNSHIP » No one was injured in a threevehicle crash Feb. 3 when a car traveled through a green light and collided with a car in a funeral procession at the intersection of Route 1 and Cheney Road in Concord Township, police said. The driver of a truck that was stopped at the green light allowing the funeral procession to proceed claimed back pain, but refused EMS services.

According to state police at Media, the accident occurred at 12:26 p.m. Feb. 3 during ideal weather conditions.

Police said a 2003 Toyota Corolla operated by Suzanne Sheehan, 27, of Garnet Valley was traveling south on Cheney Road at 12:26 p.m. when she approached the intersection of Route 1. She

Police said Quinn legally proceeded through the red light and was properly marked by a designated flag as being part of the funeral procession.

had a green light. However, a funeral procession was traveling on Route 1 at the time. A 2007 GMC Sierra operated by Robert Miller, 49, of Aston was stopped at the green light at the intersection, allowing the funeral procession to pass.

Police said Sheehan’s car went through the intersection and collided with a 2013 Toyota Corolla, operated by Kathleen Quinn, 64, of Hudson, Fla. Police said Quinn was properly proceeding through a red light as part of the funeral procession when the impact occurred, citing section 3107 of the Pa. Vehicle Code on Drivers in Funeral Processions. It reads, “The driver of a vehicle which is being driven in a funeral procession may proceed past a red signal indication if the lead vehicle in the procession started through the intersection while the signal indicator was green.”

Police said Quinn legally proceeded through the red light and was properly marked by a designated flag as being part of the funeral procession. The crash occurred as Sheehan went through the green light and impacted the Quinn vehicle. After impact, the Sheehan vehicle spun clockwise and impacted the front end of the Miller truck.

Police said no citations were issued as a result of the crash.

Sheehan’s vehicle and Quinn’s vehicle required towing, but Miller’s truck was driven from the scene.

Cheney Road northbound was blocked for an hour as traffic was detoured by fire police.
