Women’s Exchange of West Chester donates funds to area organizations
WEST CHESTER » The borough organization that turns sold items into charitable donations has made its annual contribution to social service and volunteer agencies in the West Chester area.
In December, the Women’s Exchange of West Chester, which has been in operation for 75 years, donated $25,000 to 12 area organizations for their own specific purposes.
Those organizations receiving the funds include the Chester County Historical Society, Community Volunteers in Medicine, Denney Reyburn Senior Living Facility of the Chester County Housing Authority, Fame Fire Company, Goodwill Fire Company, First West Chester Fire Company, Good Fellowship Ambulance, Friends Association for Care and Protection of Children, Maternal and Child Health Consortium, Safe Harbor, West Chester Food Cupboard and the West Chester Public Library.
The Woman’s Exchange, located at 10 S. Church St., accepts consignments and donations of household goods, art work and jewelry. Consignors receive 60
percent of the item’s sale price and 40 percent is donated to charity during the first month the item is for sale.
In response to the donation last year, the Safe Harbor organization, which operates a shelter in the borough, wrote the following thank you letter:
“Your generous support for Safe Harbor is wonderful, needed, and truly appreciated. Your shop has given Safe Harbor more than $18,000 beginning in 2008. We wouldn’t be doing what we do every day without the incredible support from this amazing community. The Woman’s Exchange is a huge part of that!”
