Black Lab puppy was swept away into Red Clay Creek on Feb. 11

KENNETT TOWNSHIP » Hundreds of pet lovers, many of them strangers, have joined “Team Piper” seeking the return of a 16-week-old black Labrador retriever puppy.

As of Monday morning, the “Let’s Bring Piper Home” Facebook site had garnered 1,364 likes and 1,575 followers to help bring the lost puppy home.

An anonymous donor has even rented space on a couple of electronic billboards seeking the return of Piper.

The puppy was swept into Red Clay Creek at the intersection of McFarlan Road and Route 82, on Feb. 11.

The community has circled around Piper’s owner Adrienne Jonsson and her family to lead both organized and individual searches and distribute flyers.

“She was washed away in the creek,” Jonsson said. “She stuck her nose into the water and a crest pulled her away.”

Jonsson is overwhelmed with the community response.

Three fire companies, Hockessin, Clifton Heights and Kennett have looked for Piper, along with Kennett Township Police.

“The outpouring has been amazing and humbling – and they are strangers,” she said.

“They are so committed to this search. “I’m out of words.” Red Clay Creek has been thoroughly searched.

“My hope is that somebody has found her and doesn’t realize we’re looking for her,” Jonsson said. “Hundreds of people are looking for her in Pennsylvania and Delaware.”

Jonsson asked the community to look for Piper.

“We love her and we want her home, we need her home,” she said.

The black Lab puppy weighs about 20 pounds and is wearing a pink nylon collar with a fluorescent yellow retractable leash.
