Why we need risk assessment for pipeline

-

Letter writer tells why we need a risk assessment study for Sunoco’s Mariner East 2 pipeline project.

I am writing in response to the article about the Sunoco Pipeline Tuesday February 27 th. This Mariner Project should not have been allowed.

Where is the PUBLIC Safety Risk Assessment Governor Wolf ?

As the Governor of PA your job is to Protect the Citizens of the Commonwealth.

Where is the Economic Impact Study that evaluates the falling property values and increased insurance rates for the Pennsylvanians that live near the pipeline?

Where is the PUBLIC Environmental Impact Study for this Project?

It is also your job to safeguard our Environment.

Thank you Senator Dinniman, Senator Rafferty, Senator Leach, Representative Carolyn Comitta, Representative Becky Corbin, Representative Meehan, Representative Vatali, and Representative Milne, for your leadership by speaking out for the people of PA on this issue.

It is an election year and Leadership is on the minds of many people.

We need pro active leaders in Harrisburg. Leaders who think about how to use our resources responsibly for the general welfare ahead of time rather than exploiting them for the narrow commercial advantage.

What direction are you planning on taking us in in this era and push for Clean Energy?

Governor Wolf, 6,000 people signed a petition to shut this project down.

Will you be the Leader that we need in PA in 2018 ?

We have asked, visited, rallied, signed petitions, and now are raising our own $ to complete a Safety and Environmental Assessment.

We are still waiting for your leadership on this issue.

I guess it’s just a matter of waiting now for your leadership and the elections. We are still listening.

Objecting to columnist

I’m writing in response to Christine Flowers’ recent opinion piece expressing her admiration for Pat Toomey and his attempts to help overturn the ruling of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on our terribly gerrymandered maps, as well as championing his lukewarm gun control bill.

I’m not really sure why she seems to think that Toomey needs a cheerleader, aside from his massive corporate donors, but she happily steps up, declaring him her hero several times. It’s a little weird, really.

I’m really, really puzzled why Flowers is so up in arms about a supposed “power grab” by Democrats.

Fixing our horribly gerrymandered districts is indeed shifting power away from the Republican party — but it’s giving it back to the voters, where it belongs.

And while she admits that gerrymandering is wrong, she somehow doesn’t seem to think that stealing elections is worse than some vague infringement on the state constitution.

I assume that her ranting about the “shredding” of the constitution refers to the judiciary issuing the new map instead of the legislature — but if that contorted, biased mess is the best our state legislature can come up with, I think the court was justified in doing so.

But mostly I’m not writing to express my disagreement with Flowers’ points.

That’s fine, we can disagree. Primarily, I wanted to express that her type of “firebrand conservatism” smacks strongly of someone like Tomi Lahren, a right-wing hack who yells half-truths in her “Final Thoughts” video segments.

ike Lahren’s videos, Flowers’ column is that kind of irritating drivel that’s also somehow...boring. It’s old. It’s also not at all what we need now as a country. We need reconciliation, we need change, and we need fresh voices — not columns applauding our state’s Senator who’s best known for ignoring his constituents.

I hope that you’ll consider giving Flowers’ column space to someone who might be able to offer a fresher viewpoint. Kylie Gilliams
