While Pennsylvania’s top Republicans go to court to throw out the new Congressional district map that created a new district in Montgomery County, at least one Republican isn’t waiting around to see how the legal challenge turns out.

Dan David, a Skippack businessman who won national attention for spotlighting a $15 billion scam in U.S. financial markets, announced Thursday he is a Republican candidate for the new 4th Congressional District.

David, 49, is co-founder of GeoInvesting, a financial research firm headquartered in Skippack.

“For the last 30 years, I’ve had a successful career in the business world — and for the last decade I have focused on eliminating financial corruption. I have helped expose over $15 billion of fraud on U.S. capital markets. This fraud has been primarily perpetrated upon the American people by companies based in China,” David said in a press release announcing his candidacy.

David is featured in the new Magnolia Pictures documentary, “The China Hustle.”

As the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote last September: “The China Hustle shows how fee-hungry U.S. investment bankers and brokers — paying celebrity pitchmen from rapper Snoop Dogg to onetime presidential candidate Gen. Wesley Clark — help promoters who pack overvalued Chinese assets into the carcasses of small, publicly traded U.S. firms to separate retirement investors from their dollars, without effective oversight from either country.”

Since 2013, David has pushed Congress, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and stock exchanges to take steps to protect investors.

David added, “working to help people and families defrauded of their savings by fraudulent Chinese companies has been worthwhile, but very frustrating. Government inaction on this issue is costing people, their 401ks and pension funds worth billions of dollars each year. This needs to stop.”

“Amazingly, it’s not illegal in China to cheat or steal from American investors. It will come as no surprise that the government is slow to understand this threat and is not protecting our citizens,” he said. “Congress’s inaction on this matter is the primary catalyst for my decision to run for office.”

“This inaction has had a negative effect here in the Fourth District. Pennsylvania has lost hundreds of thousands of jobs, many of which were in the 4th District. The gap between how much the U.S. imports from and exports to China has eliminated or displaced 2.8 million workers, people and family members over the last decade,” David said.

“While most politicians give you lip service about jobs, I have actually seen jobs being taken from the 4th District firsthand over the last decade. I’ve seen the jobs stolen from the 4th district.”

He was born and raised in Flint, Mich.

“When I grew up, we made cars in Flint and could not drink the water in Mexico,” David said. “Today, we make cars in Mexico and can’t drink the water in Flint. This is a tragedy for our country. In Congress I will dedicate myself to fixing these issues for struggling communities in the Fourth District and across the USA.”

The 4th District is a new “empty” district created under the remedial redistricting plan authored by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

It is comprised of the bulk of Montgomery County and the Berks County communities of Bally, Bechtelsville and Boyertown boroughs and the townships of Colebrookdale, Douglass and Washington.

David, who refers to himself as a constitutional conservative who supports the 2nd Amendment, is continuing his tour of the 4th District.

“The people of the 4th District will come first to me. That means I will fight for them, even if that means standing up to GOP leaders in Congress.”

Dan and his wife Janine have been married for 18 years. Voters can learn more about his campaign at DanDavidforCongress. com or at Facebook.com/ DanDavidforCongress.

The primary election is Tuesday, May 15.
