March madness begins with EA’s food fair

RADNOR » Food lovers recently convened for Emergency Aid’s (EA) annual fundraiser held at the Radnor Corporate Center.

A jam-packed parking lot heralded this area’s local brand of “March Madness” by celebrating a milestone for the very popular fundraising event. This year marked its 10th birthday.

The event not only gives local eateries an evening in which to shine but also gives monetary aid for education purposes to females as well. It’s “Taste of the Main Line” time for those who like to sip, sample and support local eateries when this party takes place.

EA was founded during the World War I by less than a dozen women who wanted to make a difference in the lives of those serving this country and its allies as well. The 104-yearold organization started off by providing services in several different areas. Its involvement meant not only helping find housing for military members but also selling war bonds to pay for these endeavors. The ladies’ largess became legend, as well as the amount of members and monies they were able to attract to the cause.

In the mid-1980s, the gals branched out in another direction. This time it was the education and support of females who needed and deserved funds for higher education. The foresight of these EA mentors was prescient as young gals began moving further and faster into a world of businesses and enterprises where a college or secondary degree would be required for employment.

Since then, EA has continued to place its efforts in areas of the community where women and young ladies get hands-on experiences not just together, but out in the world as well. It’s this message that EA’s members use when mentoring their charges, and its outreach appears to be on the right track.

Next up for the organization and its gals will be April 29 at Cabrini College when scholarships and awards will be bestowed on the young ladies.
