Sheetz looking to hire 2,500 workers
ALTOONA » The Sheetz convenience store chain is looking to add more than 1,200 employees in Pennsylvania and a total of 2,500 employees company-wide.
To help meet its hiring goal, the chain will hold open interviews — starting Wednesday, April 11 — at all Sheetz locations.
The company operates 568 stores across six states including: Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina. There are 264 Sheetz stores in Pennsylvania and the company has nearly 10,000 employees in the state.
The convenience store chain will be adding a mix of full- and part-time employees in the coming weeks, according to Nick Ruffner, public relations manager for Sheetz. He added there are a variety of store positions open across the company including management and store associates.
Ruffner said Tuesday the hiring fills both a seasonal and growth related need.
“The summer is our busy season — the stores get very busy,” he said. In addition, Ruffner said on average, Sheetz opens 20 to 30 new stores each year. “Each new store adds about 30 to 35 employees.”
“We are going to be adding stores; we’re committed to expanding within our current footprint of six states. There is a lot of area where there could be a Sheetz store but isn’t,” he said.
While he could not say how many new stores are currently being planned, Ruffner added that 13 Sheetz stores will be re-
built in 2018. In addition, a store in Exeter, 6600 Perkiomen Ave., is scheduled for a rebuild in 2019.
Currently, Berks County is the easternmost county in the tri-county region with Sheetz locations. Sheetz stores in Exeter and Morgantown, 3830 Main St., are the closest to Montgomery and Chester counties.
Ruffner said that will not be changing — the company has “no short term plans to move eastward.”
During the open interviews, prospective employees can learn about Sheetz’s commitment to offering employees sustainable careers built on an inspiring culture, community engagement and disrupting the convenience category, according to a press release.
“Our employees are so important to us,” Stephanie Doliveira vice president of human resources at Sheetz said in a statement. “We are deeply committed to investing in our people, rewarding our employees and attracting the best talent for the job whether it’s in the distribution centers, food production facilities, corporate office or one of our store locations.”
Ruffner added that the company is looking for people who have a driven work ethic and who are innovative.
