Henderson lacrosse teams sweep West Chester East

The West Chester Henderson High School boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams each defeated West Chester East Tuesday, the Warriors girls earning a 16-9 win while the Henderson boys came up with an 18-7 victory.

The Warrior girls jumped out to a 12-2 halftime lead en route to the victory. Leaders for the Henderson girls included Lilly Siskind (four goals, five ground balls), Jordyn Bauer (four goals, four assist, five ground balls), Shannon Earley (one goal, one assist, four ground balls, four draw controls), Peighton Bement (three goals, two ground balls), Julia Bixler (two goals, two assists, two ground balls, two draw controls, one caused turnover), Maddie Reuther (two goals) and Taylor Turner (five saves). For East, Saundra Godshall and Alex Heard scored all of the Vikings’ goals.

For the Henderson boys, the Warriors’ potent attack was led by Archer Rynmiszews­ki (five goals, two assists), Joe Saulino (two goals, three assists), Jeff Benson (four goals, one assist), Jack Saulino (two goals, four assists) and Pat Keegan (three goals, three assists). Kyle Dampman and Aidan Jacobs combined for eight saves.

Boys’ Lacrosse

GREAT VALLEY 14, SUN VALLEY 9 » The Patriots jumped out to a 10-2 halftime lead, and were led in their Ches-Mont League win by Darren Middletown (four goals), Ty Hayes (three goals) and Owen Banavitch (three goals, four assists). WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 12, KENNETT 5 » The Golden Knights were led by Mike Burke (three goals), Alex Hutsell (two goals), Anthony Simone (two goals), Ethan Cotter (one goal, two assists), Jake Spaniak (one goal, won 14 of 19 faceoffs) and Rudy Rucciuti (eight saves). BELLEVUE 7, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 4 » The host Cougars lost to their visitors from Washington state Tuesday evening despite three goals from Brian Miller and 14 saves from Nico Iacovino. The score was tied 3-3 at the end of three periods. Jack Mucahy added a goal and an assist, and Bryce Lauletta dished out an assist for D-East.

Girls’ Lacrosse

GREAT VALLEY 25, SUN VALLEY 0 » The Patriots were led by Makenzie Hilditch (four goals, three assists), Sarah Karwoski (five goals, one assist), Tessa Liberato (four goals), Tori Rubin (two goals, two assists), Annie Stagnaro (three goals), Maggie Flynn (three goals), Marley Alleva (two goals, one assist) and Mallory Macaleer (two goals). Great Valley roared out to a 19-0 halftime lead. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 9, KENNETT 6 » The Golden Knights were led by Ashley Chisholm (four goals), Emily Supplee (three goals), Tina St. Clair (one goal, two assists) and Madde Montenianc­o (six saves). The score was tied 3-3 at halftime, then Rustin rallied for the win. BISHOP SHANAHAN 15, AVON GROVE 5 » The Eagles were led by Kaela Smith (four goals, one assist), Monica Manley (five goals, six draw controls) and Avery Abbonizio (two goals, one assist). Also scoring for Shanahan were Kelsey French, Jess Holowsko, Gianna DeCesaris and Michelle Warren. Jess Gorr recorded six saves. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 17, COATESVILL­E 1» The Whippets were led by Peyton Mottice (six goals) and Tabitha Rodriguez (three goals). Corrine Bednarik, Emily Feeney and Olivia DiGiorgio each scored two goals and Regan Rightmire and Aliza Thir each tallied once. UNIONVILLE 14, OXFORD 1 » Eleven different players contribute­d to scoring for the Indians (4-1, 4-0) - Mina Scott (one goal, two assists), Hannah Close (one goal, one assist), Erin Garvey (three goals, two assists), Annie McDonough (one goal, one assist), Emma Malone (one goal), Shannon Garvey (one goal, three assists), Mauria Blair (one goal), Katie Anderson (one goal, two assists), Lily Dietrich (two goals), Madi Holt (one assist) and Lily Niemkiewic­z (two goals, one assist). RADNOR 11, CONESTOGA 10 » The Pioneers lost in overtime, despite two goals each from Rachel Clark, Juile Littlewood and Nia Scott. Cam Evitts and Amelia Kienzle each had one goal and two assists for Conestoga. Christin Ealer and Sam Centofante combined for seven saves. PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 9, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 7 » The Cougars lost this nonleague contest despite two goals each from Livi Lawton and Emily Wurzel, and one goal each from Leah Hunter, Kira Flynn and Jess Myers. COLLEGIUM CHARTER 16, BARRACK HEBREW ACADEMY 5 » Collegium earned a Tri-County League victory, led by Gillian Schlenner (11 goals), Tatiana Washington (three goals) and Sydney McKenzie (two goals). Collegium goalie Kathleen Amoroso recorded 20 saves.

Baseball

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST, COATESVILL­E 2» The Cougars got multiple hits from Mike Rodriguez and Connor Munnelly, and three scoreless innings pitched (including six strikeouts) from Grant Umberger, who was the winning hurler. Hutch Gagnon hurled a scoreless inning of relief for the save. WEST CHESTER EAST 17, SUN VALLEY 2 » The Vikings won in four innings, with help from Adam Smith (2-for-2, three runs scored, grand slam home run), Evan Werley (2-for-3, three RBIs), Jackson Berman (3-for-4, three runs, two RBIs), Seth Michel (2-for-4, one run scored, one RBI) and John Wileczek (2-for-2, three runs scored, one RBI).

Softball

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 9, KENNETT 4 » The Golden Knights exploded for five runs in the second inning for the win. Rustin was led by Ava Dobbs (4-for4, two runs scored), Grace Bitner (2for-4, two runs scored) and Mallory Hardwick (3-for-3, two runs scored, one RBI). Kennett scored all of its runs in the seventh on a grand slam home run by Ainsley Albert. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 10, SUN VALLEY2» The Cougars’ offense was led by Faith Pitsikouli­s with three hits, along with two hits apiece from Sam Ponto, Steph Jacoby, Ally Meakim and Elaina Bono. Defensivel­y, Steph Jacoby laid out to catch a line drive in center field, and Faith Pitsikouli­s back-handed a hard hit ground ball for a key out. Jess Meluskey pitched a complete game victory, gave up two hits and struck out 10.

Boys’ Tennis

AVON GROVE 5, KENNETT 2 » The host Red Devils swept the doubles matches as well as third singles (Ben Nelson). Avon Grove doubles winners were Matt Cordell and Reed Hadley (first doubles), Andrew Leisi and Hayden Weber (second doubles), Luke Pappa and Isaac Muth (third doubles) and Alex Day and Brady Buchwald (fourth doubles). Kennett won at first singles (Nick Defelice) and second singles (Noah Rasero). WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 7, OCTORARA0» The Warriors swept all seven matches with straight set wins, and the singles winners were Peter Sinnott (first singles), Evan Hellmig (second singles) and Andrew Uzillo (third singles). WESTTOWN 5, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 0 » Westtown won all the singles matches in straight sets, led by Julian Tien (first singles), John Graff (second singles) and Harold Jensen (third singles).

Boys Track & Field

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 88.5, OCTORARA 61.5 » For Rustin, Charley Dever won pole vault (14’0) and long jump (19’10”); Drew Gallen won the 100 (11.77), 200 (24.13), 4x100, and 4x400; and Jackson Wetzel won the 110 high hurdles (18.40), 300 intermedia­te hurdles (45.82), and 4x400. For Octorara, Andrew Hansen won the high jump (5’10”) and triple jump (39’2”) and Ryan Baggett won the 1600 (4:55.71) and 800 (2:09.81).

Girls Track & Field

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 113, OCTORARA 47» For Rustin, Jhaniyah NewtonRidg­eway won the 100 (13.29) and 200 (27.92); Audrey Coffey won the 400 (1:03.65) and 4x400; Izzy Okcuoglu won the pole vault (9’0”), long jump (15’3.75”), and triple jump (32’3”); and Alessia Mattera won the discus (107’ 11”) and javelin (108’ 6”). For Octorara, Isabelle Croteau won both hurdles (19.00) and (54.29).

Women’s Softball

IMMACULATA 12, URSINUS 2 » The Macs (12-10) hosted Ursinus (11-11) in a non-conference doublehead­er Tuesday and won the first game by a 12-2 count, helped by a pair of home runs from freshman Keani Hindle. The Mighty Macs had their second 11-run inning in five days as they broke open a 1-1 game in the third inning to cruise to victory. Hindle hit both of her home runs in the third inning, and freshman Emma Bischoff struck out five to earn her team-high seventh win. URSINUS 4, IMMACULATA 1 » In the second game of the non-conference doublehead­er, the Macs struggled with just three hits, including a Keani Hindle solo home run, but it was not enough to keep pace with the Bears.

Men’s Lacrosse

GOUCHER 19, IMMACULATA 6 » The Mighty Macs (3-9) dropped their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium to the visiting Goucher College Gophers (7-5). Freshman Steven Long led the way with three goals while senior Christian Fisher scored two for the Macs.

Women’s Golf

COTTRELL INVITATION­AL » West Chester University earned a second-place finish at the 9th Annual Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitation­al at Penn Oaks Golf Course Tuesday afternoon, placing three golfers in the top 10, as Kutztown captured its sixth Cottell title. For the Golden Rams, Juliarose Genuardi placed fourth individual­ly with a two-day score of 160 (77-83); Lacey Bensing tied for fifth with a 161 (8279) while Meghan O’Mara shot a 162 (80-82) to place seventh.
