Whippets stun Henderson in 9th

The Downingtow­n West baseball squad scored three runs in the top of the ninth and went on to edge host West Chester Henderson 4-3 in Ches-Mont baseball action on Wednesday.

Tommy Eliason collected two hits for the Whippets, and pitcher Jake Reece fanned seven and got the victory. Logan Conduit and Ian Tracy each drove in a run for the Warriors. OXFORD 7, SUN VALLEY 0 » The Hornets blanked the Vanguards in a Ches-Mont American contest. Luke Rettig struck out 13 and notched a complete-game one-hitter. Hunter Hall, Jacob O’Connor and Dalen Griffith each had two hits to pace Oxford. GREAT VALLEY 6, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 5 » The Patriots raced out to a 6-2 lead and then held on against the Knights. Ryan Giandonato went 2-for-3 at the plate, and pitched four innings to get the win. He allowed one earned run and three hits and struck out four. Brendan O’Donnell had two RBIs for Great Valley. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 13, COATESVILL­E 0 (6 INNINGS) » Mike Rodriguez and Joe Cestare had two hits apiece to lead the Cougars to a mercy-rule shortened win over the Raiders. Austin Taylor knocked in three runs and Scott Jewett struck out four in five innings of work to get the win. Anthony Boccio had two hits for Coatesvill­e. CONESTOGA 13, LOWER MERION 3 (6 INNINGS) » Ryan Buck had a big day at the plate for the Pioneers with two doubles and a triple. Jacob Marcus added two hits and surrendere­d just two hits in six inning of work, while striking out nine. Luke Czepiel, Will Mauro and Christian Moessler each had multi-hit games for ‘Stoga. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 8, WESTTOWN 5 » In non-league action, the Whippets narrowly beat the Quakers thanks to a 3-0 edge in the fourth quarter. Shea Dougherty amassed five goals and three assists for West. Blake Larsen (three goals) and Jaxon Hendrickso­n (two goals) led Westtown.

CONESTOGA 23, LOWER MERION 0 » In Central League action, the Pioneers clobbered the Aces. Claire Overton knocked in six runs and Katie Mayock had three hits and three RBIs. Olivia Cepielik chipped in with two hits and three runs batted in.
