Unionville’s Garvey scores 200th goal as Indians down Bishop Shanahan

Erin Garvey scored her 200th career goal as the Unionville girls’ lacrosse team defeated Bishop Shanahan, 13-2, Thursday. Madison Doucette recorded 11 saves as the defense held Shanahan scoreless in the second half. Garvey finished the game with three goals and one assist, Annie McDonough scored four goals, and Mina Scott tallied three goals. Other standouts for the Indians were Hannah Close (one assist), Emma Malone (one assist), Veronica Hineman (one goal, three assists) and Maura Blair (two goals).

Baseball WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 17, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 8 »

The Golden Knights exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning en route to victory. For Rustin, Ben Watson was 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBIs; while Pat McDonough had three hits and a home run, and Dylan Demarco and Sean Hopkins each had two hits. For Henderson, Thomas Caulfield, Danny Collinson and Ian Tracy each had two hits.

Maddie Fife hit a couple of three-run home runs to lead the Golden Knights to victory. Hope Geissler also hit a home run for the winners, and teammates Nicole Inforzato (3-for-4, three runs scored) and Sami LaRosa 2-for-3 also had big days at bat. For Henderson, the batting leaders were Madelyn Skinner (2-for-4, two-run home run, two runs scored), Kayla Burleson (3-for-4, one run scored) and Nicole Capuzzi (2-for4, one run scored, double).

OXFORD 8, KENNETT 1 » Winning pitcher Shannon Martin only allowed six hits in six innings, while at bat she went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Also for the Hornets, Gianna Coyle and Alexis Pearson each had a hit, RBI and two runs scored.

A trio of Cougars had hat tricks - Jack Mulcahy, Colin Armbrust and Brian Miller. Cole Bertolami, Dillon Hammer and Cooper Dicicco each scored once, while Bryce Lauletta, Mark Evans and Grady Meredith each dished out one assist.

Jeff Benson scored six goals and dished out two assists to lead the Warriors, who also got help from Archer Rymiszewsk­i (three goals, three assists), Luke Weirman (one goal, one assist) and Pat Keegan (two goals, two assists).

The Eagles were led by Connor Heisman (three goals), Kyle Gucwa (four goals, one assist) and Tyler Kingsbury (won 19 of 20 faceoffs). Shanahan goalie Nic Pezone recorded

The Whippets exploded for four goals in the fourth period for the victory. Leading the way for Downingtow­n West was Shea Dougherty (three goals), Nick Varano (two goals, three assists), Jameson Smyth (two goals), Nick Higgins (one goal, one assist), Nick Sicilia (one assist, won 12 of 16 faceoffs, six groundball­s) and Owen Karp (14 saves).

The Pioneers were led by Kent Hjelm (two goals, two assists), Will Schnorr (two goals), Chris Cara (two goals), James Reilly (one goal, two assists, 12-for-16 in faceoffs), Clif Madden (three goals) and Kyle Nicholson (three goals).

Earley (one goal, two ground balls, three draw controls, one intercepti­on), Peighton Bement (one goal, two ground balls, two caused turnovers, one intercepti­on), Olivia Pritchard (one goal, one caused turnover), Emma Goldstein (one goal, one ground ball, one caused turnover) and Taylor Turner (seven saves). For Kennett, Lilly Sandusky had four goals, and Claire Bornman tallied once.

The Lions won their first game of the season, in the first game of a doublehead­er sweep Thursday. Sophomore infielder McKenzie Spencer hit a two-run double and a two-run triple. Jemiah Groce tossed a onehitter, striking out nine batters.

In the second game of a doublehead­er sweep, the Lions (2-12) put their running game into action, stealing 13 bases to help generate a season-high 20 runs. Spencer hit three doubles to tie a school record for most doubles in a game, and finished the afternoon with four doubles and two triples while scoring seven runs and notching seven RBI.
