PHILADELPHIA » A Coatesville singer who recently won an award for his music is set to sing at an upcoming Phillies game.

Jamall Anthony will perform “God Bless America” at the Phillies home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, April 22 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Anthony recently won a Hometown Heroes Homey Award for Best R&B Song from the radio station, 93.7 WSTW based in Wilmington, Delaware for his song “Time Machine.”

He said he was honored to have the chance to sing at a Phillies game. “I’ve been a lifelong Phillies fan, and for them to reach out to me, it’s definitely one of my bigger accomplishments,” he said.

Anthony, 30, grew up in Coatesville and graduated from Coatesville Area Senior High in 2007. He then attended Settlement Music School in West Philadelphia to study voice. He said he’s been singing for 15 years. “Music is definitely in my blood,” he added.

He said he’s been fortunate to be like a sponge soaking up all the musical experience and advice he comes across from teachers and others he’s met while studying and traveling.

Some of Anthony’s musical inspirations are Bob Marley, John Legend, The Fray, and Kings of Leon. “I’m a big rock and soul fan,” he said.

Anthony still lives in the Coatesville area, but he will be moving to Los Angeles later this summer to further pursue his music career. He recently landed his first major label with Hollywood Records. He plans to drop a five-song sampler album sometime in August.

When asked what advice he would offer to other young people who want to get into the music industry, Anthony said it’s important to believe in yourself, stay consistent, and take in all the advice and input from people you meet. “Believe is my favorite word,” he added.

Anthony will also be performing live on WFMZ-TV 69 News on Monday, April 23.
