Police probe rash of vehicle break- ins

Police are investigat­ing a rash of vehicle break- ins in Kennett Square.

KENNETT SQUARE » Thieves are targeting unlocked cars in Kennett Square.

Sometime overnight on March 29, two vehicles parked in the 400 block Chestnut Street were entered and gone through. Nothing was stolen, police said. That same night, a vehicle parked in the 100 block North Lincoln Street was entered and gone through. Nothing was stolen. The same night, a vehicle parked in the 200 block North Washington Streetwas entered and gone through. Nothing was stolen. The same night, a vehicle parked in the 400 block East South Street was entered and gone through. $ 15. was stolen. The same night, a vehicle parked in the 300 block North Lincoln Street was entered and gone through. Nothing was stolen. The same night, a vehicle parked in the 200 block North Washington Street was entered and gone through and $ 8 in change was stolen.

IDENTITYTH­EFT » On March 26, a resident of the 500 block West Cypress Street reported to police that they were the victim of identity theft. They told police they received a call stating there was a late payment of $ 1331.80 due on an auto loan for a 2017 Dodge Challenger, valued at $ 3,5956.47, out of Bedford, Texas. On March 28, they were informed that another vehicle, a Dodge Charger valued at $ 3,9484, was purchased using their informatio­n, also purchased out of Bedford, TX. On April 2, they discovered there was a Sprint account in the amount of

$ 4,297.00 open in their name.

MONEY FOUND » On March 29 at 1 p. m., a resident reported that they had found $ 134. in cash on the sidewalk at East Cypress Street and Sycamore Alley and turned the money over to police.

PUBLIC DRUNKENNES­S » On March 29 at 10: 10 p. m., police cited Thomas Shanklin, 29, Kennett Square, for public drunkennes­s after receiving the report of a male passed out in the 300 block East State Street then found stumbling in the 100 block South Broad Street. Shanklin was transporte­d to his residence and released to a friend.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT » Police cited Sharon Johnston, 40, Avondale, , for disorderly conduct following an incident that occurred on March 31 at 7: 24 pm in the 100 block West State Street.

DUI » Hector Sanchez-Perez, 28, of Avondale was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses, after the 2007 Chevrolet he was operating was stopped for erratic driving. The incident occurred on M arch 18 at 12: 42 a. m., in the 9000 block of Gap Newport Pike, in New Garden Township. Police on routine patrol had observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Gap Newport Pike. As police followed the vehicle, the registrati­on plate was being lit by non- regulation lights and the vehicle failed to maintain its lane of travel. STRANGULAT­ION » Juan J. Hernandez, Jr., 19, of Avondale was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Robbery, False Imprisonme­nt, Terroristi­c Threats, Strangulat­ion, Resisting Arrest, and Harassment, following an incident that occurred on March 17 at 12: 33 p. m., police were dispatched to the 9100 block of Gap Newport Pike, in New Garden Township for the report of an unknown nature police incident. Upon arrival, police found Hernandez standing in the doorway of the residence blocking the victim from leaving.

DUI » Ivan Zavala- Zavala, 21, of Kennett Square was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses, after the 2006 Chevrolet he was operating was stopped for a moving violation and for erratic driving. The incident occurred on March 18 at 2: 30 a. m., at the intersecti­on of Scarlett Road and West South Street, in New Garden Township. Upon making contact with Zavala- Zavala, police observed indicators suggesting intoxicati­on and field sobriety tests confirmed impairment.

DUI » Nelson Lopez- Aguilar, 21, of Toughkenam­on was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses after the 2002 Mercury he was operating was stopped for an equipment violation as well as for moving violations. The incident occurred on March 19 at. 8: 39 p. m. in the 100 block of Willow Street, in New Garden Township. Upon making contact with Lopez-Aguilar, police observed indicators suggesting intoxicati­on and a records check revealed that he was not licensed to drive. After he was unable to perform field sobriety tests, he was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI.
