Downingtow­n West’s Lili Najim delivered a gamewinnin­g sacrifice fly to score teammate Nina Gallagher in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Whippets a 7-6 Ches Mont softball victory over host Avon Grove on Monday. Natalie Beebe scattered nine hits to get the complete game vuctory. Carly Raymond had two extra base hits to pace the Devils. BISHOP SHANAHAN 10, KENNETT 0 5 INNINGS) » Emily Sano and Hanna Keiper each homered to lead the Eagles past the Blue Demons in Ches-Mon action. Seno’s shot was a grand slam, while pitcher Devon Miller registered 12 strikeouts, allowed one hit and got the complete game shutout. Katy Newton chipped in with three hits for Shanahan. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 12, SUN VALLEY 6 » Nicole McCarthy went a perfect 4-for-4 including two doubles to lead the Knights past the Vanguards. Madison Fife, Emily Bassick, Mallory Hardwick and Sami LaRosa each added two hits for Rustin. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 5, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 4» Claire Kelly had seven strikeouts and notched the complete-game pitching victory. Lexi Hammer, Steph Jacobs, Val Ponto, Clair Kelly and Faith Pitsikouli­s each had two hits for East. VILA MARIA 1, UNIONVILLE 0 » This game was a pitcher’s dual between Unionville’s Maddy Frich and the Hurricanes’ Alyssa Viscardo. Unionville out-hit Villa 4-3, but was unable to push a run across the plate against Viscardo. Analise Griffiths had two hits for the Indians. CONESTOGA 14, RADNOR 0 » The Pioneers win, combined with a loss by Upper Darby, puts ’Stoga in sole possession of first place in the Central League. Claire Overton had three hits, including a homer, and drove in five runs for the Pioneers. On the mound, Lauren Lofland fanned seven in five innings and got the win.

WEST CHESTER EAST 8, COATESVILL­E 0 » The Vikings broke open a low scoring affair with four runs in the top of the seventh and went on to blank the Red Raiders. Tim Becker had three hits and teammates Seth Michel and Jake Coehlo added two hits each for East. Pitcher Adam Smith fanned 13, allowed two hits, and went the distance for the Vikings.

VILLA MARIA 17, SACRED HEART 4 » The ‘Canes jumped out to a 10-0 lead and breezed to an AACA triumph. Hannah Young led the way with five goals and Margie Carden chipped in with a goal and three assists.

Boys Lacrosse

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 13, ABINGTON 6 » In nonleague action, seven different Whippets scorwed goals, led by Shea Dougherty’s five. Ty Wolverton added two goals and Nick Higgins had a goal and two assists. Luke Venzie dished out three assists for West. BISHOP SHANAHAN 15, BERKS CATHOLIC 0 » In a non-conference clash, the Eagles cruised to a shutout thanks to Connor Heisman (four goals, three assists) and Kyle Gucwa (four goals, two assists). Shanahan led 11-0 at the half.

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 86, UNIONVILLE 64; UNIONVILLE 111, SUN VALLEY 37; WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 120, SUN VALLEY 29 » Brett Wagner establishe­d a new Unionville record with a 22.19 in the 200-meter run and it was enough to top the Vanguards but not the Knights. Jackson Wetzel won the 100 and 300 hurdles for Rustin.

UNIONVILLE 85, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 64; WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 113, SUN VALLEY 37; UNIONVILLE 129, SUN VALLEY 21 » The Unionville girls won the Ches-Mont American title with wins over the Knights and the Vanguards. Alessia Mattera won the shot put and discus for Rustin.

Boys Tennis

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 7, SUN VALLEY 0 » The Whippets swept the Vanguards by taking 84 of 87 games en route to a Ches-Mont victory. At No. 1 doubles, the West team of Tim Basta and Griffin Hillsinger prevailed 6-1, 6-1. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 6, AVON GROVE 1 » The Knights swept the singles matches and notched three doubles wins on the way to a Ches-Mont win. Robert Goldi and Mark Melloy won at No. 2 doubles 6-2, 7-5 for Rustin. The team of Aidan Hannon and Issac Meth grabbed the Devils only victory. WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 7, OXFORD 0 » The Warriors won six of seven matches in straight sets. The only exception came at No. 3 doubles, where the team of Tommy Valvono and Joe Schwartz topped Donte DiFrancesc­o and Noah Anderson 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. CONESTOGA 7, OWEN J. ROBERTS 0 » In non-league action, the Pioneers shutout the Wildcats. The most competitiv­e match came at No. 3 doubles, where Stephen Le and Andy Mei beat Jacob Griste and Josh Neely 6-1, 6-1. UNIONVILLE 7, WEST CHESTER EAST 0 » The Indians used seven straight set wins to top the Vikings. In singles action, Ethan Bradley, Victor Li and Clar Horowitz all cruised to wins. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 7, OCTORARA 0 » The Cougars won all sweven matches in straight sets to better the Braves. Ahbinav Pillai, Tristan McBride and Luca Roswora were victors in the top three singles matches for East. BISHOP SHANAHAN 5, KENNETT 2 » In a match that was closer than the score indictes, the Eagles edged the Demons. Two of the three singles matches were threesette­rs, including a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 victory by Ben Schmidt over Noah Rasero at No. 3. Kennett’s David Pierry won a three-setter at No. 2.

College Baseball

MELONE HONORED BY PSAC » West Chester’s Jared Melone was named the PSAC East Player of the Week. Melone had a strong week as he went 12-for-24 (.500) with two doubles, two home runs, seven runs scored and 14 RBIs. Melone is now batting an incredible .492 on the year, which leads not only the PSAC but also all of NCAA Division II baseball entering the final few weeks of the 2018 season. West Chester is now 2411 overall and 13-7 in conference play with just two weeks left in the regular season.

IMMACULATA 19, RUTGERSCAM­DEN 13 » The Mighty Mac women’s lacrosse team trailed 10-8 heading to the locker room at half, but they broke out in a big way in the second half on their way to a program-record eighth straight victory.

In the process, senior Hannah Verrecchia became the all-time leader in goals scored in a career at Immaculata with 171 after three to go along with four assists. Verrecchia now needs just three more points to have the most points in school history as well, both previous record were held by Danielle Lopez.

Men’s Tennis

IMMACULATA 9, MARYWOOD 0» The Mighty Macs picked up their second-straight victory over Marywood in Colonial States Athletic Conference dual match action. Dom Ramsden picked up his third win in as many matches at first singles to lead the way for the Macs.
