Wanted man arrested after standoff

Police: Erving Rivera was wanted on active warrants

WEST WHITELAND » Police arrested a man wanted on a warrants after a two-hour standoff before he surrendere­d.

West Whiteland Township Police Department said on Friday that officers were dispatched at about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday to 1003 Roundhouse Court in the Exton Station developmen­t for the report of a wanted person outside the residence. Upon police arrival, the wanted man identified by police as Erving Rivera, entered the residence.

Based upon the preliminar­y investigat­ion, the officers learned that Rivera was wanted by the Chester County District Attorney’s Office on active warrants. They also learned that Rivera was currently inside the residence, however they could not confirm if he was alone.

When officers attempted to make contact with Rivera, he reportedly failed to comply with commands to exit the home. Police said based upon Rivera’s unwillingn­ess to surrender, the officers began to evacuate Roundhouse Court for the safety of the nearby residents.

The West Chester Regional Emergency Response Team responded and ultimately was able to restart communicat­ions with

Rivera. The tactical team was able to elicit Rivera’s surrender at about 4:30 p.m. He exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident, according to police.

Rivera was then transporte­d to the West Whiteland Township Police Department where he was turned over to constables, who transporte­d him to the Chester County Prison on the active warrants. His

online criminal report was not available on Friday.

The Chester County Department of Emergency Services assisted by providing a communicat­ion vehicle to serve as a command post on a nearby street. The West Goshen Township Police Department also assisted by closing South Pullman Drive during the incident. The West Whiteland Township Police Department commends the residents and visitors of the Exton Station community who voluntaril­y assisted with evacuating the area during this potential volatile situation.
