Registration open for Bike to Work Day on Chester Valley Trail
The Transportation Management Association of Chester County will host more than 150 local commuters on the Chester Valley Trail to celebrate National Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 18, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
For the past 8 years, local transportation advocacy non-profit, TMACC, has hosted a fun 4-mile bike ride on the Chester Valley Trail on Bike to Work Day as a way to encourage community, alternative commuting habits and to promote one of the trail’s main traits: a safe and accessible way to commute.
“An interesting fact about the Chester Valley Trail is that it was originally built to reduce congestion along the US 202 Corridor.” stated TMACC Executive Director Tim Phelps, “We have a few regular employee commuters cycling the trail, we want to continue encouraging more people to try it once or twice a week during prime riding season.”
TMACC expects to once again break registration records with their Bike to Work Day, since they incorporate a friendly competi-
tive aspect to the morning. The two companies (large and small employers) to bring the most riders out to the ride wins their uniquely designed Bike Taxidermy Trophy. “We started presenting this funky award a few years back and our riders loved it.” Said Phelps, “Our companies are really eager to win the trophy so they can display in their offices.”
The ride starts at 7:30 a.m. at two locations on the Chester Valley Trail: Westlakes Trailhead and Exton Park Trailhead. Attendees will ride into Wegmans in Malvern for a light breakfast, networking with fellow cyclist and awards ceremony. To register for the event, visit www.tmacc.org.
