Miller, Shanahan, no-hit Rustin

Devon Miller notched her 200th strikeout of the season and went on to pitch a no-hitter as the Bishop Shanahan softball squad blanked West Chester Rustin 9-0 on Monday. Hanna Keiper was the offensive star, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Kat Rospelder chipped in with a couple doubles for Shanahan, and Casey McCalliste­r added three hits, including a double. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 5, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 3 » Natalie Beebe picked up the pitching win and Cait Coker was 2-for-4 with a triple and double to lead the Whippets. Carly Gradizio added two hits and Hannah Greider drove iun a pair for West. UNIONVILLE 8, GREAT VALEY 4» The Indians improved their record to 9-7 with a a win over the Patriots. Unionville scored five runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory. Analise Griffiths and Anna Deshaies led the way with two hits apiece. WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 9, SUN VALLEY 0 » Madelyn Skinner scattered five hits to get the complete-game win. Brooke Espenshade and Jordyn Melnick each had three hits and Megan McAfee drove in three runs to lead the Warriors (7-9 overall). OXFORD 13, OCTORARA 6 » Abbey O’Connor had three hits and knocked in two runs to lead the Hornets. Rachel Florio and Gianna Coyle had two hits apiece to help the cause for Oxford. Pitcher Shannon Martin pitched four scoreless innings for the Hornets.

OXFORD 6, OCTORARA 3 » Pitcher Justin Neskie went six strong innings, Matt Summer pitched in relief and the Hornets topped the Braves in Ches-Mont action. At the plate, Justin Culp drove in the winning runs with a two-run triple for Oxford in the sixth inning. GREAT VALEY 7, UNI0NVILLE 1» The Patriots rallied for five runs in the fourth inning to break open a close battle. Ryan Giandonato went 4-for-4, Connor Malloy had three hits and Craig Ryan added a pair of hits for Great Valley. Pitcher Danny Muck went the distance, scattered five hits and struck out six. WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 6, SUN VALLEY 3 » Ian Tracy and Casey Caufield each had multiple hits to lead the Warriors past the Vanguards. Henderson broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the fourth and two in the sixth. Pitcher Justen Lucas got the complete game win for the Warriors. COLLEGIUM CHARTER 8, COMMUNITY ACADEMY 1 » A sixrun outburst in the first inning powered Collegium Charter to a non-league win. Peter Graham went 3-for-4 and Ethan Feathers added three RBIs and grabbed the complete-game four-hitter on the mound. KENNETT 1, WEST CHESTER EAST 0 (8 INNINGS) » Ben Lesher beat out an infield hit, which drove in the winning run for the Blue Demons in a Ches-Mont thriller. Lesher was also the winning pitcher as he came on in relief in the eighth with the bases loaded and got out of a jam. Mitch Balint led Kennett with two hits. Jake Coehlo and and Tim Becker had hits for East. AVON GROVE 5, COATESVILL­E 0» Ryan Gerenser went the distance, struck out six and scattered four hits in the shutout victory for Avon Grove. Andrew Brady and Bailey Smith each delivered two hits to pace the Red Devils. CONESTOGA 8, HAVERFORD 2 » Owen Margolis had four hits and drove in a pair of runs to power the Pioneers past the Fords in Central League action. Jared Deluccia was 3-for-4 and Jared Buck went the distance on the mound, while scattering four hits.

COLLEGIUM CHARTER 9, ACADEMY PARK 6 » Junior Gilliam Schlenner scored six goals, which matched the opponents total, to lead Collegium Charter past Academy Park in nonleague action. CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 16, WEST CHESTER EAST 10 » Saundra Godshell scored five times -- upping her career total to 100 -- but it wasn’t enough as the Viking dropped a non-league clash. BISHOP SHANAHAN 9, HAVERFORD SCHOOL 8 » The Eagles withstood a late run to win a non-league contest on Senior Night. Gianna DeCesaris (three goals) and Jess Holowsko (two goals) led the way and goalie Jess Gorr made 12 saves for Shanahan.

Boys Tennis

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 7, OXFORD 0 » The Whippets prevailed in straight sets in all seven matches against the Hornets. Ben Kane cruised at No. 1 singles, and the team of Dillon Claffey and Sakef Varanasi won at No. 1 doubles for West. LOWER MORELAND 4, DEVON PREP 1 » In the finals of the District 1 Class 2A team championsh­ip, Lower Moreland edged the Tide. Devon Prep’s only win came at No. 2 singles, where Josh Arno topped Jacob Pabia. UNIONVILLE 4, PENNSBURY 1 » In the quarterfin­als of the District 1 playoffs, the Indians won all three singles events and advanced. Brothers Tristan and Ethan Bradley both won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, and Victory Li added a win at third singles, to lead Unionville.

College Baseball

WARD HONORED BY PSAC » West Chester senior shortstop Nick Ward was named the PSAC East Co-Athlete of the Week. The former Unionville High School star had a great week to end the final regular season of his collegiate career as he went 8-for-15 with eight RBIs, nine runs scored and three home runs to help lead West Chester to a sweep of Mansfield and a PSAC Eastern Division title.

Ward now has 13 home runs on the season, which is good enough to tie him for first with Matt Baer (2010) and Blair Dameron (2009) for most home runs by a WCU player in a single season.

College Softball

GARBER, HOUCK, LOKEY CAPTURE MAJOR AWARDS » The PSAC released its PSAC Eastern Division All-Conference team and major award winners and to say the Golden Rams were well represente­d would be an understate­ment. West Chester captured three out of the four major awards as 2017 Freshman of the Year Bri Garber captured PSAC East Player of the Year honors while Amanda Houck was named East Pitcher of the Year with head coach Diane Lokey receiving PSAC East Coach of the Year honors.

West Chester also placed seven on the PSAC East AllConfere­nce team as Cat Hammer, Heidi McColleste­r (West Chester Henderson), Sara Ercolani (Downingtow­n East), Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove), Garber, Houck and Emily Maseth all secured spots on the squad.

Gary Swinech had two hits for Carlson. TRIPLE FRESH 16, COFFEE CUP 7 » Chris Carmody homered, and Dan McAlonie and Cary Wertz chipped in two hits, to lead Triple Fresh. Dom Bartone singled and scored two runs for Coffee Cup.
