OPEN HOUSE
Good Fellowship Ambulance to give public a look at live- saving equipment
WESTCHESTER » Good Fellowship Ambulance in West Chester Borough will allow the residents in their coverage area, for the first time, to get an up close and personal look at their newest life- saving capability of prehospital advanced life support service at their annual open house today.
Earlier this year, after Chester County Hospital’s paramedic department ceased operations, Good Fellowship assumed responsibilities for advanced life support ( ALS) emergencies. This means that Good Fellowship became a fully certified pre- hospital advanced life support service, whose paramedics are capable of rendering care to patients suffering life- threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, strokes, and allergic reactions.
One of the highlights of the two- hour event, slated for 6 to 8 p. m. at Good Fellowship’s headquarters on 600 Montgomery Avenue, will be an explanation for residents as to why the squad became advanced life support and how this service benefits residents and businesses. Residents will also have the opportunity to meet the paramedics and examine the equipment they use on lifethreatening emergencies.
“We feel that residents will get a better understanding of what paramedics do in the field,” said Charles Brogan, chief of operations of Good Fellowship. “The paramedics will be more than happy to answer questions on the skills performed on life- threatening emergencies, explain how they use the cardiac equipment, and the medications used.”
Other activities throughout the evening, which takes place in the ambulance bays and in the parking lot, includes station tours, blood screening test, hands- only CPR demonstrations, a vehicle rescue demonstration and an exhibit of area fire and police vehicles. Representatives from Chester County Emergency Service agencies and local hospitals will also be on hand for discussion.
