James Facciolli Jr. of Downingtown
James Facciolli Jr., 97, of Downingtown, passed away on April 12, 2018 at home, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Facciolli, with whom he shared 72 years of marriage.
James, born on April 10, 1921 in Baltimore, Maryland, was the son of James (Sr.) and Mary Facciolli.
He served in the U.S Army during WWII, where he spent time in the Pacific Theatre. When he returned to his family after the war he became a highly respected teacher and track coach for the West Chester school district. Although he was very strict with both his students and athletes, his compassion and morals were always evident. In fact, James received an award from the NAACP for his actions to protect his students and athletes.
When he was not working, he and his wife loved outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, clamming, crabbing and crafting. James and Betty were also members of multiple dog and poultry clubs. They bred, raised and trained their animals, often to a championship level.
He was a resilient, strong-willed, and dependable person who adhered to his values and provided support whenever he was able. James was very stern; however his relationship with his wife, whom he nicknamed Freckles, often revealed a softer side.
He was not only an exceptional husband, but also a remarkable father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather.
He is survived by his son James Facciolli III, son Joseph Facciolli, daughter Mary K. Facciolli, and daughter Mary Ann Mullen; along with nine grandchildren, sixteen greatgrandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. James was a true patriarch to his entire family, and always assured that his loved ones were taken care of.
The family will celebrate his life and legacy privately.
