Shrek hits the stage in Exton

- From Judy Elliott

SALT Performing Arts presents three free performances of Shrek Jr. on June 2 at 2 p.m. and June 3 at 1 and 4 p.m. at the Eagleview Towne Center in Exton. Directed by Chelsea Barnett, Shrek Jr. runs approximately 75 minutes with an intermission. Located in the Eagleview Town Center park, be sure to bring blankets, chairs, picnic — along with a canned good for your “ticket” in.

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek Jr., based on the Oscarwinning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek Jr. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

Shrek Jr. is the second youth Mainstage production produced by SALT Performing Arts and the first professional all-youth production whereby the performers are all paid. Over 100 talented young performers auditioned for the 25 slots. The cast is made up of both SALT veterans and newbies; all young actors from Chester Springs and the surrounding suburbs of Chester County.

“We originally performed this professional production Shrek Jr. in February of this year with a very enthusiastic response,” comments Lauren McComas, SALT Artistic Director and President. “So we are thrilled to be able to perform again in June thanks to the generous support of the Hankin Group. Our cast is made up of some of the most talented and energetic kids from the surrounding areas. The audience will be delighted with this hilarious family friendly production.”

Production Staff: Chelsea Barnett, director/choreographer; Brigitte Rottman, music director; Brad Deleone, assistant director; Genevieve Kull, stage manager; Kathy deVries, costume designer; Tom deVries, set designer and Lauren McComas, producer.
