Church Farm School releases Centennial documentary
EXTON » The Church Farm School, an independent boarding and day school for boys in grades 9 to 12 recently premiered a new documentary in honor of its Centennial entitled “Honoring Legacies, Fulfilling Destinies: 100 Years at Church Farm School.” The 20-minute film follows the school’s founding on April 1, 1918 by The Rev. Charles Wesley Shreiner — who wished to create a working farm school for fatherless boys. This vision endured through decades of progress culminating in the Church Farm School of today, where all students graduate and attend some of the nation’s leading colleges and universities, including Yale, Brown, Williams, Johns Hopkins, Swarthmore and Penn.
Narrated by James Tate ’52, the documentary features historical and contemporary photos and videos interspersed with interviews with alumni from various decades; current students, faculty and staff; Head of School The Rev. Edmund K. Sherrill II; and former and current board members, including Stacey Shreiner Kley, the founder’s granddaughter whose father served as second headmaster and brother served as third headmaster. “This film is important and pays homage to our founder’s vision and the many, many people who have made our continuing work possible over the past 100 years. While the school is no longer a working farm, its founding mission to help young men build confidence and character as they prepare to go out into the world is
as strong as ever,” said the Rev. Edmund K. Sherrill II, Church Farm School’s Head of School. “The documentary provides valuable insight into our profound purpose, and uncovers this hidden gem for others to see and support.”
More than 90 percent of Church Farm School students receive financial
aid from the school, with most families paying less than 10 percent of the school’s annual tuition. A strong endowment and generous financial support from individual and corporate donors has helped to sustain this mission for 100 years. Church Farm School was recently named the “Most Beautiful Private High School in Pennsylvania” by Architectural Digest. Learn more about the school at www.gocfs.net.
