Patricia Shay Swords, 81, of Downingtow­n, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Park Lane at Bellingham.

Born in West Chester, she was the youngest daughter of the late John B. Shay, Sr. and Ida Farra Shay.

She graduated from Saint Agnes High School and Goldey-Beacom Business College.

She retired from the US Postal Service in West Chester after 35 years, during which time she served as Secretary to the Postmaster for 18 years. From 1970, she was a member of the American Postal Workers Union until the time of her death. She served as SecretaryT­reasurer for the Union for many years.

Pat loved to read and spend time tracing the genealogy of the Shay family. She also enjoyed going to New York to see Broadway shows with her daughters.

Pat was the wife of the late William B. Swords, III, who preceded her in death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joan Dunleavy.

She is survived by her children, Franklin Vattelana, Jr. (Valerie) of Oxford, Delores ‘Lori’ Court (Robert) of West Chester, John Vattelana of Downingtow­n, Gary Vattelana (Judith) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Diane DiRocco of Parkesburg; along with 13 grandchild­ren and 8 great-grandchild­ren. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Wickersham (Ralph) of Kennett Square, and her brother John B. Shay, Jr. of Port Saint Lucie, Florida.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at St. Agnes Church, 233 W. Gay Street, West Chester, PA 19380.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Safe Harbor of Chester County, 20 North Matlack Street, West Chester, PA 19380.
