WCU’S STELLA NAMED FIRSTTEAM ALL AMERICAN » West Chester’s Maggie Stella and Sami Barnett have been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) AllAmerica team. A junior, Stella was a first-team selection, as voted on by the committee of coaches across the nation. She is the first first-team All-America selection from WCU since Tori Dugan in 2013 and the first midfielder picked overall since Erin Oczkowski in 2012. Barnett was a thirdteam selection, marking the first time since 2014 that West Chester landed multiple individuals on one of the three All-America squads.

Stella finished with 57 goals and 69 points on the year. However, her biggest contribution was in draw controls where she scooped up 111 draws to become just the second player in school history to hit the century mark in a single season in that category. Her 111 draws is third behind a pair of efforts from Dugan, during her playing career. Stella also caused 37 turnovers and was credited with 44 ground balls. She tallied a season-high six goals against Lock Haven in the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament and was named the tournament’s most valuable player as West Chester captured its conference-record 22nd title.

Barnett led WCU in goals scored with 60 while adding another 20 assists for an 80-point season. She tallied four game-winning goals and recorded 66 draw controls. The junior middie scored a season-high five goals on four separate occasions and was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 AtLarge squad for her work in the classroom. She finished fourth in the PSAC in scoring.
