Church Farm School feted on its 100th anniversary
They are marking a century of education at the Church Farm School in Exton. Local dignitaries joined in.
State Senator Andy Dinniman recently recognized the Church Farm School on its 100th Anniversary.
In honor of the milestone anniversary, Dinniman visited the school and presented the Head of School, the Reverend Edmund K. “Ned” Sherrill II, with a special Senate Citation.
“The Church Farm School has prepared generations of young men for careers and challenges of the future,” Dinniman, who serves as minority chair of the Senate Education Committee, said. “I want to thank all of the teachers, staff, parents, students, volunteers, and patrons who have contributed to that rich legacy and continue to support the Church Farm School in its mission of guiding and shaping young men on the path to excellence.”
Opened on April 1, 1918, with five students, the Church Farm School sustained itself largely as a working farm until the 1980s. Students would work the farm half the day, and study the remainder of the day. When the need for phasing out farming operations became a reality, the school made the decision to sell off most of its acreage and create an endowment for the future support of the school.
Today, the Church Farm School serves a diverse student body of 200 young men in grades 9-12 from the midAtlantic region and around the world. It offers a challenging college preparatory curriculum with average class sizes of seven to twelve students.
