Arrest made in connection with serious car crash

Andrew Tichy allegedly crashed into vehicles in Ss. Simon and Jude parking lot

WESTTOWN » On Monday the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department arrested Andrew F. Tichy, age 30, from Reno, Nevada in connection with a serious crash back in March of 2018. Tichy was the driver of a vehicle that crashed into several parked vehicles, in the parking lot of Ss. Simon and Jude Church, that rolled on top of him and caught on fire. Officers from the police department and citizens worked together to push the vehicle off of Tichy to save him from burning.

As a result of a detailed investigation by the Traffic Safety Unit, Tichy was charged with risking catastrophe, a felony, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, speeding and reckless driving. Investigators determined that Tichy was traveling at a speed of 100 mph in the 1600 block of West Chester Pike which is posted at 55 mph. Just prior to the crash, police determined that Tichy was driving at 83 mph in the 1500 block of West Chester Pike which is posted at 45 mph.

Tichy was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge William Kraut at District Court 15-2-03 and bail was set at $50,000 unsecured. Tichy will return to the court June 28 at 9 a.m. for his preliminary hearing.

On May 29 Police Chief Brenda Bernot issued Commendation Awards to Sister Regina Elinich, Raul Correa Jr., Angelo Golato, Allddon Kendig, Officer Ryan Herman, Detective Jason Diamond and School Resource Officer Michael Meiswich for their life-saving heroics back on March 14.

The Traffic Safety Unit worked closely with the Chester County District Attorney’s Office before filing the charges.
