Richard W. Shaw, 91, of Chester Springs, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Southeaste­rn Veterans Center in Spring City.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Aileen and Howard Shaw.

He graduated from West Chester High School and immediatel­y joined the U.S. Navy as an air cadet during World War II and later served as an aviation mechanic in the Korean War. He attended Oberlin College and returned to West Chester where he became a district manager for Massachuse­tts Mutual Insurance Company.

Richard was a past president of Chester County Life Underwrite­rs and West Chester Kiwanis Club. In later years, he operated Shaw Realtors and worked as a Realtor with Remax Action for over 25 years until retiring at the age of 85.

His greatest passion was flying and in later years worked as a flight instructor at Chester County Aviation at G.O. Carlson Airport until his early 80’s. One of his fondest memories was spending summers at a cottage on the Sassafras River on the Chesapeake Bay boating and skiing while his children were growing up.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Shaw; his daughter, Joanne Coyle; son, Kenneth Shaw and by his grandchild­ren and great grandchild­ren. He was predecease­d by his daughter, Christine and by his brother, Phillip.

Richard found faith in Jesus late in life and was thankful for the love, care and fellowship that he received from members of the Grace Covenant Church. He also wanted to thank all the friends who came to visit during his illness. Services will be private. Memorial contributi­ons may be made to Grace Covenant EPC, 444 Creamery Way, Exton, PA 19341.
