Downingtow­n starts fast, edges Spring City to stay perfect

Downingtow­n is still perfect in Chester County American Legion play, thanks to another strong start Tuesday night.

The Dawgs scored both of their runs in the first inning and held on from there, beating Spring City, 2-1, to move to a perfect 8-0 on the season.

Andrew Ciliberto had a triple and RBI, while Mike Mollenhaue­r had two hits and an RBI to slip past the Red Sox.

Jake Reese allowed six hits over six innings to get the win on the mound, and Dylan DiRocco struck out the side to earn the save in the seventh inning.

Adult Baseball

P.J. WHELIHAN’S 8, RED MEN 5 » P. J. Whelihan’s used a five-run second inning to springboar­d to an 8-5 victory over Red Men in West Chester Adult Baseball League (WCABL) action Tuesday night at Farley Field at Hoopes Park.

Evan Snyder and Drew Constable combined for three walks and each posted RBI singles. Zack Roberts led P.J.’s seven-hit attack with two singles while Constable posted a pair of RBI. John Iezzi scattered nine hits in the pitching win.

Nate Valenta had three hits, including a double, for the Red Men. Jeff Hagan chipped in with

a pair of doubles and three RBI and Ian McConnell had two hits in a losing effort. Charlie

Connolly pitched the first five innings for the Red Men and was saddled with the loss. HALY OIL 10, STEELBIRDS 4 » Mark Bernhard was 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and six RBI as Haly Oil rolled to the Coatesvill­e Adult Baseball League victory.

Chase Roman had a double and four runs scored, while Ed Miller had three hits and two RBI. Brian Pennock earned the complete game win on the mound for Haly Oil, striking out four.

Adult Softball

CHES-DEL SENIOR » The Legends sponsored by Optimum Physical Therapy won both ends of a double header over Pride & Joy Landscapin­g by scores of 11-5 and 6-0.

Marty Breisblatt was the winning pitcher in both games. John Spangler led the Legends with five hits, Rob Giacomucci, Gary Zimmerman, and Jack Freehoff chipped in with three hits each.
