Route 422 ramp to close for 8 months
STOWE » The seemingly everlasting construction on Route 422 will continue with the closure of the ramp from Grosstown Road going eastbound.
The construction at the Stowe Interchange will begin Monday morning, July 9, and last through midMarch 2019, according to a PennDOT press release.
Motorists will be redirected toward High Street and Route 100 to access eastbound Route 422, according to PennDOT.
This latest detour is part of a major project to rebuild 1.2 miles of Route 422 from east of the Schuylkill River bridge to west of the Montgomery County line in North Coventry, West Pottsgrove Township and Douglass (Berks) Township, PennDOT announced Monday.
Throughout the eightmonth project, PennDOT is reconstructing both existing and new alignments. The Route 422 and Stowe Interchange will be redone to a diamond configuration. PennDOT will also remove and replace the existing ramps and culverts. There is to be an upgrade of stormwater management facilities and pipe as well as construction and restoration of wetlands, too.
New Intelligent Transportation Systems equipment will be installed, including: message boards, signings, pavement markings, lighting, concrete median barriers, median glare screens and guardrails.
H & K Group Inc. of Schwenksville is the general contractor on the project. The $35,581,408 improvement project is fully financed with state funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania’s Transportation Plan, according to the release.
“The entire project is scheduled to be completed in late 2020,” according to PennDOT.
