‘Builders’ needed for Legoland event
Event to be held July 5 at Independence Visitor Center
Calling all Lego brick building fans. Legoland Discovery Center Philadelphia is joining with the Independence Visitor Center Corp. to host a Lego mosaic brick building event July 5 as part of the city’s Independence Day holiday festivities.
The day long public event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the newly renovated second floor terrace of the Independence Visitor Center. Lego brick building fans are invited to join Legoland Discovery Center’s “Model Builder team” to assist with building four different 2.5-foot x 4-foot mosaic designs, including a featured patriotic design of iconic Philadelphia landmarks.
A spokeswoman for the event said the event is free and open to the public. No advanced registration is necessary, and interested families just need to show up to participate.
As part of the day, builders will install 1-foot by 1-foot Lego bricks in a color-coded pattern to create one image once the entire panel is completed. After the event, the four mosaic panels will be displayed at the Independence Visitor Center for an
extended period of time, according to a press release.
During the event, Legoland Discovery Center will unveil its Lego model of the Comcast Technology Center. The new model will be in Legoland Discovery Center’s MINILAND Philadelphia exhibit, a recreation of Philadelphia landmarks made from more than 1.5 million Lego bricks.
The newest Lego model took 360 hours to complete. It was created from 49,728 Lego bricks, weighs 247 pounds and stands at nearly 11 feet tall.
Legoland Discovery Center Philadelphia opened in April at Plymouth Meeting Mall. There are 11 Legoland Discovery Centers in the U.S. and 22 worldwide.
