Man arrested after standoff with police
State police arrested a man after a standoff that lasted for several hours on Sunday.
LONDON BRITAIN » No one was injured in a stand-off with police that lasted for several hours on Sunday.
Pennsylvania State Police Avondale Barracks advised residents to stay inside during the incident in which a man barricaded himself in his home on Crestview Road in London Britain Township.
State police said on Monday they took David Allan McGonigle, 33, of Landenberg, into custody at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person, after he was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with the victim prior to the arrival of state police, according to the police report.
State police built a perimeter around the home after responding to a call of a domestic situation shortly before 10 a.m. Investigators said McGonigle reportedly refused to answer the door when police arrived and negotiations continued for hours until the suspect surrendered.
During this altercation, state police said McGonigle allegedly threatened to use a firearm against the victim after the victim woke him up. The victim and other family members were able to flee the residence safely. No injuries were reported.
McGonigle is in Chester County Prison, unable to post bail, according to his online criminal report. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 13 in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew Seavey.
