Report: Sixers adding swing man Chandler from Denver

- Staff and wire report

The Sixers reportedly bolstered their roster by acquiring veteran swing man Wilson Chandler from the Nuggets on Tuesday.

Chandler, 31, completed his 10th season in the league and had been with Denver since 2011. ESPN was the first to report the trade, but it remains unofficial as it hasn’t been announced by either team as yet.

Chandler averaged 10 points, 5.4 rebounds and 35.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc in 31.6 minutes per game last season. Chandler’s a career 34.1 percent 3-point shooter.

The Sixers also received a 2021 second-round pick and the rights to swap a 2022 second-round pick from Denver. They sent cash considerations to the Nuggets.

The deal allows Denver to save $50 million in combined salary and luxury tax, while the Sixers take on all of Chandler’s $12.8 million salary. Chandler has one year left on his contract and the Sixers can move him if they see fit.

The Sixers were one of the bidders that lost out to Los Angeles in the LeBron James sweepstakes, the Lakers signing him to a four-year, $154 million deal announced Sunday. Since then, the Sixers re-signed 34-year-old JJ Redick and reportedly have now added Wilson Chandler.

Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova have both signed with other teams since the start of free agency.

The Sixers are among teams said to be engaging the San Antonio Spurs in trade talks for disgruntled All-Star Kawhi Leonard.
