Orange run raises funds to fight cancer
Seventh annual Orange Run raises more than $ 21K for cancer research and support services
The seventh annual Orange Run raised more than $ 21,000 to benefit two cancer fighting organizations.
MALVERN » USA employees organized the seventh annual Orange Run, which raised more than $ 21,000 to benefit two cancer- fighting organizations.
More than 275 walkers and runners of all ages came together for the event, which began in the Atwater Corporate Center. Through employee donations, raffle ticket sales, registration fees, and sponsors, including Trammell Crow Company, Union Leasing, CFI, and UPS, this familyfriendly 5K run/ 2K walk raised more than $ 21,000 to benefit Cure 4 Cam Childhood Cancer Organization and The Breathing Room Foundation.
Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation raises awareness about pediatric cancer, its effects and its current treatments. It also raises funds to support the development of new, less toxic therapies for children fighting the disease. Cure4Cam was started by the family and friends of Cameron Evans, of Downingtown, who lost his battle with cancer in 2012 at age 14.
“The Orange Run showed incredible community support for families facing a cancer diagnosis,” said Regina Evans, Cameron’s mom and co- founder of Cure4Cam. “Cure4Cam is thrilled to be a beneficiary of this great tradition and are confident that funds raised will make a difference in someone else’s life. As we say in the words of my son, Cameron, in whose memory Cure4Cam was founded, we are happy to see somany people inspired to save a life.”
The Breathing Room Foundation is best characterized as neighbors helping neighbors affected by cancer by providing food, transportation, financial assistance and anything else to relieve the daily emotional, physical and financial stress of living with this disease.
“This event has grown in the number of recipients and in the amount raised due to the hard work and dedication of the ifm team,” said Mary Ellen Fitzgerald, executive director of The Breathing Room Foundation. “The funds received from the Orange Run will help to respond to the most critical needs of over 1,100 newly referred families in 2018 as they struggle with the hardships associated with a cancer diagnosis and treatment. We could not make the impact that we do without the generosity of individuals and companies who support our mission.”
At the event, runners were challenged to push their limits and traverse the hilly 5K course throughout the surrounding neighborhoods on Church Road and Shadow Oak Drive, while walkers strolled along the scenic path in the Atwater Corporate Center. After the event, attendees enjoyed a post- run party with live music, delicious food and beverages. Medals were awarded to top overall male and female 5K champions and first- place male and female in different age groups.
The Orange Run originated six years ago, when ifm employees learned that one of their most dedicated colleagues, Lizanne Da the, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Funds raised from this event covered out- ofpocket expenses associated with treatments so Da the could focus on her health. Her journey with cancer ended on April 26, 2014, but ifm’s commitment to help those affected by cancer in her memory continues.
