Downingtown wins regular season finale
Downingtown took care of Phoenixville in the regular season finale of Chester County Legion League action Monday night, and will begin Friday’s league tournament as the No. 2 seed behind first-place Spring City. Mike Mollenhauer had three RBI and Evan Williams had a triple in the win for the Diamond Dawgs (18-2, 21-4). Tommy Eliason pitched four strong innings of relief, striking out five.

PJ WHELIGAN’S 13, RED MEN 3 » The Prowlers (9-9-1) took over sole position of fourth place in the West Chester Adult Baseball League with a win over the Red Men (615) at Farley Field. John Iezzi threw six shutout innings for the Prowlers to earn the win, striking out four and scattering six hits. Iezzi, Joe Zgleszewski, Hiron Gonzalez, Drew Constable, Alex Halladay, and Zach Roberts each had two hits apiece to lead the Prowlers offensive attack. Ian Mcconnell and Matt Palmer each doubled and singled for The Tribe.

TRI-COUNTY SENIOR MODIFIED » Fence Sense/Proudfoot Roofing defeated Triple Fresh in the first game of the playoffs, 9-7. Arnie Miller had three hits for Fence Sense/Proudfoot, Lou Stoltfus had a threerun home run, Joe Catanese and Don Davis had two hits each. Dave Mendenhall was the winning pitcher. For Triple Fresh, Ray Fernandez and Kevin Wright had three hits.
In another playoff game, Jitters Sports Bar defeated Allstate, 8-1, behind strong pitching from John Taylor. Woody Lawrence, Mo Corporal and Nick Vanderwerff added three hits each to the effort.
